Author's Review
The Valentine One is unlike any radar detector that I've ever seen. I love my Valentine One, I love it like I love my family, like I love my car, and like I love my life. Where would I ever be without a Valentine One? If I were God, the radar detector that I'd be using would be a Valentine One, not a Bel 990 or Escort Passport 8500 or SR1. Well, I think you've finally figured out enough as to how much I'm in love with my Valentine One, here's why it's so incredible.
-Price-
*Ack! I can't believe that some people call this thing expensive. It's $400 of www.valentine1.com, but it's without any doubt, worth every cent of that $400! I can swear it on my life... This will be the greatest $400 you'll ever spend. You might be saying to yourself right now that $400 is a lot of money to spend just for a radar detector, but I'll tell you why it's a great decision to make. First off, I live in the state of Illinois. I see cops here and there, but I almost rarely see them on the highway. But one time was enough for me to get caught on Illinois Rte53. So the tickets cost $75 if you plead guilty, and if it's a speeding offense from 1-20mph. If it's above 20mph, it's an extra $30, and even higher, you're screwed, it can go down as reckless driving. Or you can do traffic school in Illinois for $105 to $135. So when you get caught for the first time, it's pretty much $100 lost instantly, and not to mention insurance if it goes on as an offense! Insurance is a real pain, your rates can go much higher, but if you have teenagers, now there's a problem! However, a simple $400 spent on a Valentine One will ensure that you'll never have to deal with this load of crap.
Secondly, how does the Valentine One handle compared to other radar detectors? The two (actually three) other closest competitors are the Escort Passport 8500 which goes for $300, the Beltech BEL 990 which goes for $320, and the Escort SR1 which in a league of its own for an astounding $1,000! However, the Valentine one still outperforms the $1,000 SR1, and without doubt smokes the Passport 8500 and BEL 990 in every other respect. The Passport 8500 is the closest competitor. However, according to Car and Driver, the Valentine One still has better sensitivity than the Passport 8500. I have used both, the Valentine One has a tiny edge over the Escort regarding warning time, but the Valentine One is still better in other respects. Is it worth the $400 difference in price? Yes. Are any other detectors better? Not a chance!
-How It Functions-
*The Valentine One is unlike any other detector regarding the way it works. All other radar detectors only show the intensity level of the radar, and nicely enough, others also show you which band cops are using (X, K, Ka, or laser). However, there are many features on the Valentine One that make it a God compared to other detectors. The first feature that really sets it apart from others is that it has arrows which show where the cop is. This is very helpful. This function works great with the Valentine's ability to detect multiple cop. There is an LED which counts how many bogeys (singals which could be cops, or anything else) there are. If there are multiple signals, then the arrow flashes at the direction at which it feels is more of a threat. This can save you from speed traps and other things. Also, there is obviously a volume feature, and when you get signals, it shows you whether it is X, K, Ka, or Laser band. Ka and Laser are the most commonly used ones.
-Overall Performance-
*The Valentine One gets competent competition from the Passport Escort 8500. I've tried both, but the Valentine One still has an edge over the 8500. Also, the other greatest feature about the Valentine One is that it has a rear antenna, which gives it rear protection. It's very rare to actually get an attack from a cop in the rear, but it can really ruin your day if you get caught. The Valentine One doesn't allow you to take chances. Only the SR1 offers rear protection, but it's still not as sensitive as the Valentine One, and still costs $600 more! The Valentine One will let you know where every signal is coming from. One nuisance can be driving in a store parking lot, because the doors give off signals, but it's better safe than having to get pulled over! When I'm on the road, the Valentine One never let me down. I drive a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, and I love pushing it. I'm not reckless or anything, but on the highway I'll find myself doing 20 to 30mph over on a regular basis. Most of the time when I take 41, 94, or 53 from my house, I see NO cops. But when there are Illinois State Troopers out there, the Valentine One lets me know far ahead of time! It also lets me know how many there are, I've been able to avoid speed traps with two cops with this baby. Any other radar detector would've only beeped... Yeah... Great protection, ay?
-Some Side Notes...
*In this review, I am in no way encouraging all of you to drive recklessly. I'm just saying that many speed limits across the country are crazy. Also, some cops can be brutal, I've known people who've been stopped for speeding only 5mph over! However, it's time to fight back, and the Valentine One is a great tool that will help you in your battle!
-The Verdict-
*God must really enjoy this thing. There's no other radar detector like the Valentine One. The Valentine One will always be king. Over other detectors, it offers more features, 360 degree protection, it doesn't jam when there's more than one cop, and it's so effective! I can safely say that this is one of the only true perfections in the world. It's very rare to find something so perfect... But golly! The Valentine One is!
