Author's Review
IF you're reading this, you're probably a Rally fan who's looking for a good rental, of even a buy. I am a Rally fan myself, I love racing games, and when this title popped up in my local renting store, I decided to give it a try. When I stuck the game in my system, and played it for a minute, then I shut off the N64 in disgust.
Graphics----Graphics are, well, decent, and the scenery of the race locations are gorgeous, and this is from someone who went to one of these places for summer, so I can tell you it looks exactly the same in real life. Cars are well done, Logos give it a "Rally" feel to it. Overall the graphics could have been polished a bit more, it seems distorted and muddy when you race.
Sound----Nothing to complain about the sound, motors sound like the real thing. Not much else to talk about.
Control----Here is the drop off in the game. Control feels awkward, there isn't a sense of comfort, driving should not be as hard as this in video games. Of course, I realize this is a Rally game, and control should be tough, but I am talking about the slow response and difficult learning.
Gameplay----There is enough to do so you won't get bored quickly, if you haven't been turned off by the game's performance in the first place.
Overall Satisfaction----Die Hard fans, here's a Rally game with a steep
learning curve, but it can be enjoyed if you have the patience. I think fans of Rally racing will get the most out of it, but if you're looking for a Rally game with more of an arcade punch to it, try the Top Gear Rally games, or Top Gear Overdrive. Of course, check out their reviews here first before running out and renting it.
