Witty Dialogue and No Gratuitous Nudity or Sex=Funny Wholesome Movie

Undercover Brother is a spoof on disco and the 1970's. If you remember Soul Train and Don Cornelius "back in the day" you will have some fun and hopefully happy nostalgic flashbacks. When was the last time you saw steel afro-picks (or afro hair styles for that matter-does anyone remember 'Afro-sheen Blow Out' kits for that full afro effect?). The afro-picks are used as a type of ninja throwing star for secret agent Eddie Griffin. Platform shoes are featured humorously in this film as well.

The main characters in Undercover Brother are portrayed by African-American actors (hooray for that, by the way). More black actors should be allowed to ply their trade in the film industry as something other than a token rapper or angry gang member. The humor in Undercover Brother is universal and understandable no matter what ethnic background you claim as being 'yours'.

I loved the cameo appearances by James Brown and Billy D. Williams. This is a movie I would have enjoyed working on daily as an extra, even for the small pay that extras typically receive in the film industry. Undercover Brother kept its sense of humor about itself and stayed well within the boundaries of good taste.

I did not like the song selections. The very best soul music was produced before 1975. That is only one man's opinion but I would debate anyone who believes that disco music improved Soul Train or the entertainment industry in any way. I will take the Temptations and Smokey Robinson any day over K-C and the Sunshine band and yes, even over Rick James or even Parliament. As the comedian said in the film "The Kings of Comedy", does anyone remember when [soul] music was about love and not the angry rantings and threats of young men rapping about shooting police and hurting anyone who gets in their way? {Can you imagine Marvin Gaye singing anything but love songs?} Sorry for going off on a small tangent but it's appropriate- Undercover Brother reminds us that the entertainment industry doesn't need to feature gruesome, bloody special effects and horrific scenes to make a movie a hit.

The nostalgia and light-hearted/fun/love songs from the 1970's coupled with some actually funny dialogue allows me to recommend Undercover Brother to anyone.
