Author's Review

I bought this game because I was always very fond of the traditional Yatzee game. I was surprised to see that this program actually has 5 different games.

Game number one is painted yatzee. Each side of the dice has one of 6 colors. When it comes to scoring, you have the option of logging your score by number, or by color.

Game number two is triple yatzee. I believe that there was a version of this in the "board game" version. You have three different opportunities to score each of the categories. One which is worth the actual amount. The next is double the base amount. And triple the base amount.

The third game is the classic yatzee. This is the game that we all know and love. Roll the dice and plot your score.

The next game is battle yatzee. I think this was the second hardest to get used to although it turned out to be a very interesting game once I got the hang of it. You have two players. Each alternates going first. Player one rolls three times. Then when the second player goes, they roll twice and your dice are then lowered and they have the opportunity to knock your dice with theirs. Then you are stuck with picking a score from whatever is left.

The hardest game in the group for me to get used to was the pyramid version. The dice are not cubes, they are pyramids. It appears that there are three numbers on each side and somehow you pick your dice that way. I found it very hard to read the numbers on the dice, or have a clue as to the objective of the game.

I would recommend this game for anyone who likes the traditional version, but runs into the problem of finding someone to play with. I do admit that it takes a little while to get used to the variations, both when it comes to the rules and when it comes to watching for the different items to score. It's nice because there really are no pieces to lose, and you'll never have to buy another scorecard again!
