Author's Review

Yahtzee is a classic game played either on the computer or sitting around the table with family and friends. What ever way you like to play it, they are both fun (at least with this one you don't loss the dice). I got the Yahtzee computer game about 3 years ago, not a day goes by I don't play it at least once a day (no I don't stay in epinions all day, hehe).

The graphics are great, nothing to fancy but sure not boring. There are 5 different versions to play (pyramid is my favorite). All 5 have their own background music you can have turned on, if not you can play your own CD's, or turn it off completely. Personally I like playing with the background music on, to quite without it.

Each version has its own unique playing area with lots of color and a virtual cup for the dice. You shake the cup using your mouse and let them go into the playing area. You can have hints come up to help you decide what you should do, I like to play myself without scoring hints. If you do use this feature after each individual roll, the areas are shaded in gray with the points you would get. Example if you roll three 5's and two 6's, The 5's would say 15, the 6's would say 12, or the full house would say 25. Once you decide want score you want to take, hit the box and the score is there. If you mess up you can hit undo (only before you take another turn).

Four players can play (all but battle) at a time or play against the computer. It keeps the top 10 scores on each individual version. You already have fake scores their before you play, which if you get higher then them eventually they will be knocked off the board.

CLASSIC YAHTZEE

Nice background music to set the mood for the popular classic version. Throw the dice on to the green surface, with dark brown sides to see what you come up with. You get three turns to get the highest score possible. Just like the one you play at home on your kitchen table, top is one's, two's, three's, four's, five's and six's. Get 63 points on the top and get 35 bonus points. Bottom has the 3 of a kind, full house, straights, yahtzee, chance and more. Dice are white with black dots, five of them.

TRIPLE YAHTZEE

Like Classic except you have 3 columns to fill up instead of one. Second column would be your score for the individual space times 2, and third column would be the score times 3. Example if you roll four 6's you can put it in the 6 column on the top for either 24, 48 or 72 points. When I play I try to fill up the third column with the biggest scores possible for that certain space. You also get bonuses on the top if you get so many points, 63, 126, and 189 is what you have to get to get your bonus points. The bottom is the same as classic. The music is ok in the background, on the classic side. Playing table looks better, gray on sides and bottom, burgundy velvet on top. Dice are burgundy with white dots.

PAINTED YAHTZEE

The top section is the same as classic, bottom and middle are different. In the middle you have red, blue, purple, green, and yellow sections. You play with 5 dice, all are one of the above colors. When you roll them and get lets say 3 blue you can put it in the blue section in the middle, gives you total of all the blue dice. Get a bonus of 25 points on middle section if you get 75 points. The bottom section has 4 of a color (total of 4 dice of same color. Painted house, total of 2 dice of one color and 3 of another, gives you 25 points. Rainbow is when you get 5 dice all a different color, 35 points. Flush is all same color, 45 points. Palette is total of all dice, like the chance on classic. Then you have your 4 of a kind, regular full house, yahtzee, and straight. The playing area is black and white checkers with blue sides and yellow cup. Shaped kind of like a kidney bean, this music is kind of upbeat.

BATTLE YAHTZEE

This one you play with two people, you or computer or you can play your name twice. The first person rolls three times and the dice are put at the top of the playing "pit". The second person takes their turn rolling twice, the first persons dice are lowered into the "pit". The second person now rolls their dice and tries to hit the others so they get a bad deal and at same time getting a good deal for themselves. This keeps going back and forth until you are done. The score card is the same as classic. Playing area is like a battle pit, with 2 sets of dice (one is black with red dots other black with green dots). Music is battle music, this one is difficult at first, once you play it gets easier.

PYRAMID YAHTZEE

This is another unique one to play. The dice are pyramid shaped, with 4 sides (1, 2, 3 and 4 on each side). The score card is on the top 1 through 4 (total of dice of that number), bonus of 20 points if you get 35 points on top. Bottom has 3 of kind, 4 of kind, full house, yahtzee, and chance. The different one is large and small pyramid. Small pyramid is two 1's, two 2's and one 3 for 15 points. Large pyramid is two 2's, two 3's and one 4 for 20 points. The playing area is pyramid shaped, dice (5 of them) are black with white numbers on them. Playing area is an Egyptian motif, with Egyptian music. This one is difficult, but fun to play.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes to have fun and challenges. If you like SORRY and MONOPOLY you will like this one. It is fun for all ages.
