Author's Review
I am in a destroyed room. I am finally conscious after my crash. I check my phaser to see if it is still working, thankfully it is. I look around; this alien world is dreadfully scary but yet interestingly advanced. I see blood stains on the ground, I suppose they are my fellow marines. I try to look away, but the gruesome look of it all sickens me. I see a few med-kits and I pick them up and heal my injuries. Suddenly a strogg runs into the room and starts shooting at me. I pull out my phaser. Bang bang I shot him in the head. He falls to his knees then dies. I see two ways to take. I chose the one to the right. The alien world is very metallic. A light is flickering. I near the edge of the corner. I see a strogg walk by, he sees me and says something then suddenly another strogg appears. I take out my phaser, and take four shots. Killing one and leaving the other so injured he can only take two blind shots off before he dies. I have lost some health but I decided to save the health pack until it is absolutely necessary. I look behind some crates; I find a shotgun and some healths. Finally a descent gun I think to my self. To my dismay theres only 25 shells. I pray and hope I can find some more. I go into an outside area. I hear an aircraft fly over head and look up. Suddenly I hear a shot; I clutch my side and turn to the side. I put up my gun and bang bang I kill the strogg who injured me. I limp over to the side and grab a med-kit. I heal my injuries and walk outside again. I stand there wondering whats going to happen next. I venture onward on to this seemingly never-ending quest of dangers and traps.
Quake II in my opinion is an awesome game. I was well worth buying when it came out, and it is well worth playing now and always will. It has extraordinary game play. Ear blowing music. Visual effects that in its imperfections create a New World of horrors and aliens. The opponents have the intellect of someone who will kill you even if they are doomed to die. You fall into this seemingly hopeless world and cannot get out unless you die or it has been days running without stopping. You feel terror running through your veins every moment of this game. You practically feel the gun in your arm and your reactions become life like. Your body moves as though you are the marine in this futuristic alien world. Seeing the breeds of stroggs that have parts of humans sadistically taken away from them and put onto this horrific alien body. You watch what effects your weapon has on the alien body. You watch the body parts fly into the air and the head rolls toward you; you kick the alien head and think in your head take that strogg. You see the light flickering and you wonder why it flickers and your pulse raises as you venture deeper and deeper into the game.
Quake II has a great game style that makes it harder yet works your memory. This game makes you venture back and find new paths while adding more weaponry to your wide arsenal. You have many weapons in this game. My personal favorite is the hyper blaster. This gun is a fully automatic energy chain gun. It has no spin up delay and you cant lose control of it. There is also many items or Military supplies there is the infamous quad damage, the newbie Invulnerability, there is a silencer, and items that help you hold more ammo.
Along with the widest selection of weapons there is a huge amount of opponents, each one more hideous than the first. The name of the race is strogg. In fact the stroggs are a mixture of captors that makes them more powerful. I think that the looks of the stroggs bring fear to your heart and you stand above a berserker, while you hear him sharpening his sword/hand. You see a brain walk by as you climb off and wonder why you are on this forsaken quest. And the most fearsome of all is when you see the wall shake because a tank commander is coming. You grab all the ammo you can in a hope of winning.
Quake 2 also has a very gruesome yet intriguing world. You enter each room and either see a psycho captor or crucified on the wall. You enter rooms where this is a gigantic spinning blade and below it a table where they obviously took there captors to be upgraded is the best word I can think to describe it. As you venture into the game you meat the most disgusting place that every second of it the howls and screens of the tormented souls brings fear down your spine. You cant help but watch as marine by marine they fall down to meet their fate. The place that I am talking about is the torture chambered. You see all the disgusting yet sadly effective torture devices. They tear guys apart or crush them and even worse. You must see this to really believe its true.
This game is still very revolutionary to this day. It has not only recieved numerous awards, but it has been the foundation of numerous modifications, or mods that make people play to this very day. Its great single-player game play alone has single-handedly garnered the game countless awards, but much of the success in the game is due to great stability in multi-player, excellent graphics, and solid feel overall. I have just now chosen to write this review right now because I have just discovered the fun Quake 2 could be again, almost like a rebirth almost! If you are looking for no-fuss fun, then you can look no further than this game.
