U2 Vertigo 2005 Chicago

I may be a bit biased with my mostly positive review of this concert DVD since I was actually at two out of the three shows that were used to film this DVD in Chicago. I think that the people who would appreciate this DVD the most are the fans that were actually at the show. I think the majority of the footage that was used was from Bono's birthday on May 10th and I was in the front row of this show.

This DVD was filmed fairly early on in the Vertigo tour so I don't know that it was the best time to reflect on the electrifying energy of this tour. Also, no offense to the city of Chicago but the fans seem to be so used to having huge musical acts come to their city so they don't always come off as overly enthusiastic. That being said, it was still a great stop in Chicago and I think that the gist of it is overall reflected on this DVD.

I met the director of this DVD before the show started on May 10th and he was such a nice guy and so enthusiastic about putting the DVD together. I think it came across a bit "chaotic" at times and definitely did not include enough fan shots. I'll be honest and say that I was hoping to see myself and my friends on the DVD but it probably would be helpful for viewers to see more fan interactions so that they could feel as if they were at the show too.

Highlights of this DVD (for me) are Beautiful Day, Vertigo, and Electric Co. A female fan was brought up to play with the band during Party Girl and it would have been really cool if that footage was included on the DVD. I was so happy to see the bonus disc when they showed the crowd chanting "happy birthday" to Bono during the May 10th show. That was a very memorable moment for me and it's so fun to always have visual and auditory access to that memory via this DVD.
