Intensity of a action novel with the butterfly feeling of a romance!

Date of Review: Aug 28, 2007

The Bottom Line:  I would highly recommend this book to all young adults who enjoy any type of romance, adventure, mystery, or fantasy all twisted and twined together!
When the big talk in a little town was about a 17 year old, very awkward, girl falling in love with an over 300 year old, unbelievably perfect, vampire, I not only had to find out about her story, I also had to get into her head and live her life.

Fortunately for me, this was not even the slightest bit difficult while reading the page turning novel, TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer!

The intense plot begins with Isabella (Bella) Swan deciding to move from the big city of Phoenix, Arizona to a little town known as Forks, Washington which happens to be, contrary to Bella's wishes, the rainiest place in the country. She leaves mothering her immature mother, Renee, to live with her non-conversational father, Sheriff Charlie Swan. Bella realizes shortly after arriving, things are going to be different than she is used to, but she will never be able to imagine just how different they will be.

Bella is positive the first day at her new, much smaller, high school would be difficult to say the least, however, upon arriving in her new, not so quiet, truck, she becomes the talk of the school. Even with all the attention, Bella finds herself only being able to focus on the four adopted, unbelievably perfect, Cullen kids. Not only were they beautiful and intelligent, the one with the bronze hair seemed to despise Bella from the first glance. Although Edward Cullen seems to possess a very noticeable conflict with her, he shows a distinct need to save Bella's live at every chance there is.

It is easy to spot how very unique the Cullens are, but it is not until a childhood friend, Jacob Black, confines in Bella an old Quileute tribe legend about the Cullen's being "Bloodsuckers" from ancient times, that she realizes how unique Edward and his family really is.

As the story continues, it is obvious to tell the differences between Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen, but for unknown reasons they are all each other can think about. Even after knowing Edward is a vampire and Bella's scent is particularly enticing to him, they both realize one can not live without the other.

Although romance is not one of my first book genre's of choice, TWILIGHT brings the intensity of an adventure/action novel together with the sappy, butterfly feeling of a fantasy/romance novel for the perfect combination. It keeps you wanting to turn the next page so you can not only find out the mystery of whether this odd love affair works, but it also brings the desire to find out what becomes of Bella's fate.

TWILIGHT is ideal for young adults due to the fact it dives deeply into the high school atmosphere of new schools, first loves, and self awareness every high schooler faces. It also contains that fantasy world every human being dreams of living in.

Reading TWILIGHT was an eye opening experience which allowed me to think on multiple levels and it left me thinking about endless future relationships as well as reflecting on the past ones. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone and am currently reading it for round two!
