I'm not sure why this book is called Turning Angel |
|||
|
Pros: reads fast, riveting while you're reading, Mia!
Cons: Nobody else is remotely likable, plot is very dense
The Bottom Line: If you like thrillers, this one will do as long as you don't think about it until afterward.
Review: I've been a fan of Greg Iles since his second book, Black Cross. However, not being as much a fan of modern day thrillers, I stopped reading him when he moved away from World War II. On a whim, I picked up Turning Angel and found myself ...

Pros: Great dialogue, great plot and great characters!
Cons: Many readers may be uncomfortable with the frank approach to sex with younger partners!
The Bottom Line: A thriller that aspires to be mentally challenging as well as a typical page turner!
Review: Penn Cage is a writer and semi-retired attorney, recently widowed and seeing a younger woman in a difficult long distance relationship. He and his close friend, Andrew Elliot, a much loved internist, both living in the town of Natchez, Mississippi, serve ...

Penn Cage Returns in Turning Angel |
|||
|
Pros: Good plot, decent thriller.
Cons: Penn Cage, not as good as some of other Iles books.
The Bottom Line: Iles fans will enjoy, but maybe not as much as some of his other books.
Review: A follow-up to Greg Iles' bestselling The Quiet Game, Turning Angel picks up Penn Cage's story five years after the events of the first novel. Penn, a prosecutor turned author who has moved back to his home town of Natchez, Mississippi ...

Pros: Historic Natchez setting.
Action packed novel. Cons: Some questionable scenarios
The Bottom Line: Nice follow up to The Quiet Game, though not quite as engrossing.
Review: Not exactly a sequel, Turning Angel is a follow-up of, in my opinion, Greg Iles best book - The Quiet Game. Iles revisits the historical city on the Mississippi, Natchez and picks up where he left off in The Quiet Game after five years, with many of the ...

Pros: Flashes of brilliance were found.. but stuck in the middle of sluggish stuff..
Cons: Many things were unbelievable or uninspired..
Review: Greg Iles is usually a solid writer, that falters in his novel "Turning Angel". This book is a murder mystery about a fiction writer who seeks to help his childhood, doctor friend, who is being accused of murder. The story is based in Iles' home town ...

Pros: I managed to finish it. Come to think of it, that might be a "con".
Cons: Plot, characterization, length.
The Bottom Line: Read "The Quiet Game", "24 Hours", "Dead Sleep" or even "Spandau Phoenix" instead. His early work was worthwhile.
Review: Greg Iles is from Natchez, Mississippi. And since that is true, one wonders how the people of Natchez forgave him for his latest effort, "Turning Angel". Lead character in the novel, attorney/author Penn Cage, appeared before in one of Iles' best, ...
