Product Review

Believe the hype!

by   renjay427 ,   Dec 29, 2003

Pros:  great graphics, great story, hard to stop playing

Cons:  difficult controls, a little to easy to beat the game

The Bottom Line:  My final recommendation is that this is a game worth renting, not buying. I say this because it is easy to beat. This game is worth spending money for.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

First off, the stroyline is great. You play as Nick Kang, a cop that works for the EOD (Elite Officers Division). You are sent on many missions trying to follow either the Russian mob or the Asian gang. On these missions you are either in a car, on foot using your guns, or trying to kick someone's butt with the good ol' fists and feet.

First aspect of the the gameplay is the car aspect. Overall, I would rate driving around LA about an 8 out of 10. The only problem problem i had driving was getting used to the controls since I've been playing GTA. The left trigger in True Crime makes you exit the car, so everytime i would press it thinking it was the brake i would fly out of the car and lose a considerable amount of health. What makes this game unlike GTA is that you are able to go to a training session and learn tricks to do while driving, like go on two wheels and what not. The cons of the this is that the variety of cars in LA are bad. You just see the same cars over and over again.

For gunplay, i give it a 9 out of 10. The graphics that go along with the gunplay are outstanding. Just like with the cars, you can go to training and recieve upgrades for your gun, whether be it a scope, new bullets, or a whole new gun itself. The more you upgrade the more powerful your gun is. As for gun fights, they're amazing! If i had to say so, i'd say they are pretty realistic. You could have your back to the wall and sneak a peak at the people your trying to shoot and then BAM, come out while they're reloading and blow their heads off!

Fist fighting gets an 8 out of 10. Just like all the others, you can go to a dojo and learn different combos and grabs that i think are great. The pros about fighting is that it's fun. I haven't had this much fun fighting since the street fighter series. The graphics are great! The only cons about the fighting are that sometimes, the opponents are too easy.

The one con i would give this game is that it's far to easy to beat. I got my game for Christmas and on the 29th, i was done. However, the pros far outweigh the cons.

What makes this game great is the the story behind it is suspenseful and interesting. Once you start playing, it's hard to turn off the Xbox and do something else. I was sucked into the game and the story. You will too.
