Not Great Not bad

by   sdaman ,  Dec 28, 2003
Pros: The City of LA! Many cars. Upgradeble skills-RPG style. Good story.
Cons: One too many gliches, to little trafic, Drivers are complete morons!
The Bottom Line: I recomend this game to all who want to have a good, fun and intresting game. The sound tracks are GOOD! Simply because It´s the best game on the market!
Review: Yo dudes! I start with the handling: (There might be many spelling mistakes) You are a man called Nickolas Kang (Willson). And you have been fiered from the police force because of the rough tactics you use. Now, in the game you will be a member in ...

Great fun, if flawed

by   flash-hammer ,  Jun 3, 2004
Pros: Great fun, shootouts, kung fu, story
Cons: glitches ahoy.
The Bottom Line: For action movie/game fans. its got fights, shootouts and cars and a good, if cheesy story to back it up.
Review: I was slightly sceptical about this game, I had never really got into the whole Grand Theft Auto thing since the first game, and this game was essentially built up to be a GTA clone, but when someone bought it for my birthday, I had no choice but to give ...

"This is the city of the angels, and you haven't got any wings."

by   gixah ,  Jan 22, 2004
Pros: Contains the rare "corny but in a good way" attitude; Xbox version features custom soundtracks.
Cons: Glitches and average visuals; not too big a fan of the music, either.
The Bottom Line: Get it through your head that this isn't GTA, anyone whose noses aren't in the air are sure to enjoy this game despite the few bugs.
Review: Activision and Luxoflux, Incorporated (developers of the games Star Wars: Demolition and Vigilante 8) wanted to create an interactive action film and it shows. True Crime: Streets of L.A. borrows many ideas from the action films we have seen many times ...

To Live And Die In L.A.

by   graydome ,  Nov 28, 2003
Pros: Open ended gameplay. Cool soundtrack. It's LA.
Cons: Some dodgy gameplay flaws. Its LA.
The Bottom Line: This is no GTA beater. But a worthy alternative to fulfill your violent fantasies on the streets of one of the worlds most famous cities.
Review: It would be impossible to do this review without constantly mentioning Grand Theft Auto III, the game that breathed more life into gaming than any since Doom. True Crime is an unembarrassed rip off of the whole GTA III concept, with a couple of new ideas ...

Streets of LA - Not too dangerous

by   j6chan ,  Dec 13, 2003
Pros: Multiple endings, multiple game modes, funny character
Cons: Not challenging (beat in less than 15 hours), incoherent storyline
The Bottom Line: A blockbuster rental because it is too easy to beat. The storyline is average but the character does make some funny jokes.
Review: This game is about a elite cop Nick Kang who investigates his father's murder. His father was also a cop and word on the street was that he was setup. This game has multiple endings so if you fail a mission you can choose to redo it or accept the ...

Action out the yin yang

by   xgollum ,  Nov 30, 2003
Pros: Speed, entertainment, slightly less moral ambiguity than GTA
Cons: Short, and demons show up at the 2/3rds point. WTF?
The Bottom Line: Perhaps not worth fifty bucks, but totally worth playing. Split the cost with a friend or rent it. But try it, definitely!
Review: I had some expectations of the game, but I wasn't expecting it to be the holy grail or anything. I've played GTA games and loved them, I have enjoyed the open ended nature of the games and the size of the environment. The biggest selling point of ...

Believe the hype!

by   renjay427 ,  Dec 29, 2003
Pros: great graphics, great story, hard to stop playing
Cons: difficult controls, a little to easy to beat the game
The Bottom Line: My final recommendation is that this is a game worth renting, not buying. I say this because it is easy to beat. This game is worth spending money for.
Review: First off, the stroyline is great. You play as Nick Kang, a cop that works for the EOD (Elite Officers Division). You are sent on many missions trying to follow either the Russian mob or the Asian gang. On these missions you are either in a car, on ...

True Crime Streets of L.A.: It's 187 On This Undercover Cop

by   kjell1979 , top reviewer in Games at Epinions.com ,  Nov 23, 2005
Pros: diverse and rewarding gameplay, new twist on GTA formula, looks good
Cons: controls, graphical glitches, bad voice acting, linear story, little replay value
The Bottom Line: If it ain't up to what you feel, then grab your steel.
Review: Now that True Crime New York City is out, I thought I'd give it's predecessor a whirl since it seemed to have some interesting gameplay aspects and besides it was selling for $5. Like a decent online first person shooters, I've always felt that GTA ...

Videogame Cliche #233--The Rogue Cop: True Crime Streets of LA

by   Mike_Bracken , top reviewer in Games at Epinions.com ,  Jan 13, 2004
Pros: It's corny and it knows it.
Cons: It's corny and it knows it...
The Bottom Line: Worth a look if you're really bored, but don't expect anything too fantastic.
Review: If there’s one thing that really surprises me about recent videogames, it’s that no one’s managed to make an effective Grand Theft Auto clone. Given that the industry is so cannibalistic (meaning any game that becomes a hit is imitated by what ...

The 'true crime'? All the button mashing.

by   robinzing ,  Feb 9, 2004
Pros: Driving around is fun for a while, frisking people provides minutes of amusement.
Cons: Waaaay too easy and much too short.
The Bottom Line: This game is definitely worth renting, but you'll probably beat it in an afternoon, like I did. Don't spend the money to buy it unless you're a collector.
Review: With all the hype about 'the new GTA' that I heard, I was expecting a lot. I wasn't *totally* disappointed, though it definitely isn't GTA. It doesn't even come close. You play as Nick Kang, a cop with a typical tragic past. He is an agent for the ...
