I love this CD, although the lyrics always get me thinking

I first found Tracy Chapman when I discovered in my earlier teens that Boyzone didn't do the original for 'Baby Can I Hold You'. I rooted through the parents CD collection and dug this out. My first impressions were that Boyzone did it better-but after I had let the track play through all the way that opinion drastically changed. I spent the whole night listening to this album, enchanted by her voice and than by her lyrics.

I am now three years older and a hell of a lot wiser: I can't think of one Boyzone track that isn't a cover, nor do I particularily want to think about Boyzone. I remembered about Tracy Chapman and bought this album, and she did it to me again: I spent a night curled up listening to her on the sofa. This has to be her best album in my opinion now I've heard them all, and it is one of my favourites too. However don't listen to it as background music: that would be a crime, and you won't get anywhere near the satisfaction from it. Also if you have a decent stereo you will appreciate that fact that this is an all digital recording, or DDD.

Now I know many reviews will do a track by track analysis of the CD, but I think they've all done a good enough job of it. I have to say my personal favourites are Mountains O' Things and Behind the Wall: but watch out for that last one because the voice and lyrics combined create an eerie and haunting combination.

My only complaint with this album is that its not long enough: 36 and a bit minutes is only half most of my other albums. But then again most of my other albums can't do for me what she can. Spellbinding stuff.
