Author's Review
After 32000kms I can say I am very pleased with my Tacoma. Comfortable, reliable, powerful with great on-road drivability and off-road/mud/snow capability. Every vehicle is a compromise of features, fuel economy and ability; for a mid-sized 4 wheel drive truck, I would easily recommend the Tacoma to a friend.
The only unexpected problem to date was at ~15000kms when the front brakes began squeaking slightly and became a bit grabby. A brake cleaning and adjustment service was performed at the 16000km service interval under warranty by the Toyota dealer which fixed the problem.
As for minor annoyances, during cold weather (below -5'C), the driver's side rear view mirror has an occasional rattle and the HVAC blower motor has a small squeak at the lowest fan setting when it is cold, the squeak disappears when warm, and the paint is a bit soft and scratches too easily in my opinion. And even though I am just under 6ft tall, I keep whacking my head on the top of the door frame getting in and out of the cab.
As for everything else: seats, control placement, fit & finish, composite bed, stock Dunlop tires, fuel mileage (for a 230+hp truck), engine, transmission, brakes, etc., etc. Toyota has done an excellent job with all.
