Author's Review

I purchased my 2001 Toyota Tundra SR-5 Access Cab (4.7 L V8) approximately 45000 miles ago. The truck rides well and I have no complaints about the acceleration nor the handling. The engine and transmission combination is silky smooth but powerful enough to drag a trailer loaded with 1.5 tons of floor tile. I have also over-loaded my truck bed with 1.5 ton of tile and while the rear end was low, the suspension never bottomed out. I have heard some complaints about gas mileage but when you compare the 4.7L in the Toyota to the Ford, Chevy or Dodge, you will discover it is the highest of the lot at 15/19 and with the addition of duals, I am now getting 16.5/21. The seats are comfortable and the controls are logically placed. No complaints on the standard AM/FM/Cass/CD player. The sound is good unless you are attempting to blast yourself out of the truck and I believe the issue there would be the speakers. The Truck is easy to service except for oil changes due to a skid plate that was added on all version of the truck, 4x2 and 4x4.

My complaints concerning the truck are very few. The back seat is not habitable by anyone but small children or someone that does not mind having no leg room and being required to sit bolt upright. I believe Toyota will see the error there and fix that soon. My other complaint would be the factory Bridgestone Dueler tires. While the tires lasted 44000 miles before I replaced them, it was because of the terrible wet traction and not the thread wear.
