Product Review

I love my Camry!

by   bryn76 ,   Apr 24, 2006

Pros:  Roomy Back seats fold down Fabulous gas mileage

Cons:  No keyless entry No side airbags No under seat latch system

The Bottom Line:  This is an excellent, safe, roomy small family car. The gas mileage is reason enough alone to own one!!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

We lost our 2003 Chevy Malibu in a wreck in April 2004, so we began the car search immediately after. Since we were expecting a child, we wanted something safe and comfortable. We'd only heard good things about the Toyota line, so we started test driving the Camry and the Corolla. The Corolla was much too small for my likes, so we initially began leaning toward the Camry for size. We drove both the older models (before 2002) and the newer models (2003+) and didn't see many differences.

The car we settled on was a 2001 Camry CE, automatic. We love how it's roomy for a smaller car. There is plenty of room for the driver and passenger, and even having three adults in the back seat doesn't get uncomfortable. The back seats fold down to add TONS of extra cargo space, and it makes it convenient to choose to fold one or two seats down, that way, for example, we can carry skis in the car and still have the baby's carseat in the middle back seat.

The seats themselves are very comfortable. It seems that they can always be adjusted to where they fit the curves of your back just right. We've taken several long road trips in the car and I don't have any complaints about the comfort.

There are lots of little places for storage in the dash and the middle console. There are 4 convenient cupholders- the front two hold extra large drinks which is nice at times. The two in the back aren't as sturdy, but they work.

The AMFM radio/CD/tape player is great. The display and the buttons are larger, which is convenient. (The model is a CE, which is usually the most basic, but the previous owner had all the LE components put into it- cassette player, power windows/locks.)

The gas mileage is great! In the summer we average at around 28-35 mpg, and once got 38 mpg of highway miles (on vacation). And we have had virtually no mechanical problems with this car in the 7 months that we've owned it. It is very mechanically sound and handles very well. The car drives very quietly and smoothly, yet has a lot of power behind it. It has ABS, A/C, driver & passenger airbags.

The only two things that I don't like is that it doesn't have keyless entry and no under seat latch system for the car seat. Both would be really useful to me with a baby, but we've managed, and it doesn't take much to add keyless entry later, and we've managed with the seatbelt alone for the carseat. Also, it doesn't have side airbags, which would've been a plus, but didn't affect our buying decision.

Overall, this car is the very combination of what we wanted in a vehicle! I'm now GLAD we lost our old one and had to buy this one! :)
