Nice SUV
Pros:
Cupholders, middle row seat, paint finish, cargo space, exterior design, inside night lighting.
Cons:
Driver seat comfort, low MPG, transmission manual mode.
The Bottom Line:
Overall a great SUV (if you need one) I would skip the AWD (in my mind pointless) and get power leather seats. ALSO base stereo is AWESOME

Author's Review
I just had a 1 day rental of a Base model AWD Highlander. I put on 300 miles and averaged 19.8mpg (I thought I would be getting closer to the EPA 23mpg since I did 95% highway driving). I must say that I was impressed with this SUV. It was HUGE inside and just right on the outside. From the drivers seat looking out over the hood, it seemed to be very large and the seat was to low (even in the highest position) I had the third row folded and had tons of cargo room. Myself, 2 friends and my dog occupied the four seats in the car. The middle rear seat was stowed. That has gotta be the best feature of the vehicle. I love how that middle center seat can be removed and stowed under the front console, a clever design. The rear seats recline and move fore and aft and are very comfy, almost limo like. This car had the manual adjustable drivers seat and was ok, but after an hour my back started to hurt. I was constantly trying to adjust the seat, but could not get a perfect position. I am used to a car with power seats and leather and I think that would greatly help the comfort. The engine provided good pickup and the car cruised very quietly and smoothly at 75mph. The auto trans with the manual feature was good and I felt it was best to leave it in auto as the manual took to long to react to up and downshifts. If I were to buy this vehicle I would definitly get one with the audio controls on the steering wheel. The knobs for the radio and AC are huge, but the dash is rather flat and not angled to the driver so you need to take your eyes off the road to do anything. Overall I think this is one of the better SUV's on the road today. I would probably not get the AWD since it adds cost to the bottom line, reduces gas mileage and I couldn't see ever going off paved roads in this car. This would make a great family hauler. The interior is very flexable like a minivan, but in a much cooler package. My particular vehicle was a Pearl color and the paint was excellent and I think Toyota has set the bar high with the paint process on this vehicle, a deep and orange peal free finish. Also, I thought the interior lighting at night was great and there are a ton of cupholders. I think I counted 14!
