Great Strategy Game

Total Annihilation is the kind of game that you could play until two in the morning without even noticing. It has all the characteristics that a good real time strategy game should. It has lots of options, innovative gameplay, and, most importantly its fun to play. All these things come together to make this a great game.

Even though TA was released years before Age of Empires, Empire Earth, and other strategy games, it is more fun to play. Unlike A of E, TA has over one hundred units to choose from and the different types actually call for different strategies. Resource management is also more diversified and strategic because you must decide where to put your resource gatherers (which don't move) and whether you want to defend them from enemy raids. The 3D terrain also adds to the game, making battles at key passes and bottlenecks crucial.

You may be saying to yourself, "This all sounds great, but I can get all these features in other games with better graphics." That's true. But at the end of the day, Total Annihilation brings back better memories for me than games like Age of Empires. In those games I felt like I was churning out unit after unit to feed them into the meat grinder until my enemy's fortress was taken. In TA, I can actually remember using my brain to flank an enemy strongpoint on a hill and attack it from behind as my robot artillery harassed it and my airplanes bombed it from above.
It gave me something that games usually dont give me: satisfaction.
