HD-DVD May Be The Next Betamax-So Why Did I Buy One Anyway?

Date of Review:  Jan 20, 2008
The Bottom Line: Don't sounds taps for HD-DVD just yet.
Review: Have you ever heard of the Betamax? If you haven't, that's OK. Betamax, a video cassette system for recording programs off the air and for viewing purchased and rented videotapes was Sony's answer to JVC's VHS recorder. Although Betamax was actually...

Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD Player with HDMI - Stunning Images, But Still Work In Progress

Date of Review:  Nov 25, 2007
The Bottom Line: I am very happy with the Toshiba HD-A3. Although it has its shortcomings, such as slow startup, delays in response to commands and comes with no...
Review: I wanted to get a high-definition DVD player to complement my Hitachi P50H401 50-inch 1080p-capable plasma TV. Despite the fact that the war between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is far from over and my overall preference for Blu-Ray (mostly due to movie...

Now a review from a Video Editor/cameraman

Date of Review:  Nov 24, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you want to move up, and only have a 1080i TV, this player rocks!
Review: I am writing this review to give the player a fair review and not someones opinion on Bluray an HD DVD.

OPERATION: Now I will agree with previous reviews about the horrid start time. It does not matter what type of movie you plan on...

Great Player, awesome picture and features

Date of Review:  Dec 23, 2007
The Bottom Line: For those looking to get into an HD player at a minimal cost this player is an awesome choice due to it's features.
Review: Okay first of all I would like to start off my review by helping to clear up some confusion. Many people such as myself have debated whether or not to go with the higher priced A30 or A35 models since they offer 1080p resolution and the A3 model...

Date of Review:  Dec 12, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a GREAT HD-DVD player at a GREAT PRICE, then this is a GREAT choice! "4.5"

Not worth upgrading to HD-DVD at this point

Date of Review:  Nov 23, 2007
The Bottom Line: Avoid this player!
Review: I agree with the previous reviewer: if you have a decent setup now, keep it. Don't bother with the HD-DVD/BluRay "upgrade." I guess I expected more from Toshiba, as my previous DVD player was the SD-2700. I will be returning the HD-A3 and putting my...

Decent option for HD-DVD

Date of Review:  Dec 26, 2007
The Bottom Line: Decent value and performance. Low risk way to test the HD-DVD waters.
Review: The HD-A3 is a reasonably priced option to get you upconverting and playing HD-DVDs. There is a noticeable difference with HD-DVD vs. regular DVDs and the teaser offers will get you a halfway decent library without risking much in the 'format wars'...

3rd generation player still needs work

Date of Review:  Jan 12, 2008
The Bottom Line: Don't buy this unless you must see movies only released in HD-DVD format
Review: After getting the HD-DVD bug early and buying a 1st generation player (Toshiba A1) and having some issues with that player, I thought I would "upgrade" to a 3rd generation player and leave all the early adaptor issues behind me. I bought a Toshiba...

The A3 is the one to get

Date of Review:  Jan 22, 2008
Review: I bought my A3 about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't be more pleased. I downloaded the 1.1 to 1.3 upgrade to CD, popped open the tray, inserted the disc and a message then came up "Updating - Please wait" and 20 minutes later the tray opened and then...

What an horrible machine

Date of Review:  Dec 31, 2007
Review: I am returning this. Every other film doesn't work because I have to download a new update for its software. It is a pain. And it takes a half hour, if it actually works. The other solution is to connect it directly to the internet. They want me to...
