Basic straight forward gets the job done
Date of Review: May 22, 2008
The Bottom Line: Fairly inexpensive GPS, this one has good performance, not too many bells and whistles but gets the job done. Loud speaker, has Text to speech, TomTom Map share technology
I've read a bunch of reviews on this GPS and many many reviews say that its got very low speaker volume. I don't know how they are coming to that conclusion. Individual reviews on various GPS forums report that the speaker volume is in fact a good percentage louder than most GPS's available in the same price range. I turned it up to 80% and its annoyingly loud, turn it up louder and i can't think with it squawking in my ear.
It seems ok so far, similar to a relative's tomtom one 3rd edition. The 130s has an hour more battery life than the previous models, 3 hrs instead of 2. there's less ram memory on the 130s than others but the calculations still seem very quick to me.
Satillite discovery is consistent for me so far, and picks up signals well, even inside my building. This device the 130s also has text to speech which is specifically why we bought this one. price and basic straight forward features. The mount, i'm not sure about, seems convenient so far, not sure if i'll be annoyed with it down the road.
I think this is a good basic straight foward GPS device that does the job and doesn't cost a rediculous amount, it could have some more features, like multi-desitination planning but other than that and maybe bluetooth hands free or an SD memory slot, its great. Again, i'm not sure how these reviews from abc or cnet or amazon come to these conclusions that the speaker volume is low, it's NOT LOW, its LOUD!
