Connie Willis is always a delightful read. And this was a choice example of what makes her books so very much fun to read. Willis knows well the old adage "fools rush in where angels fear to tread". The main characters in her books are the fearing angels, people who think about that they are doing, and make reasonable attempts to to the appropriate thing at the right time. And the fools are always standing in the way...

But Willis looks at what could be annoying realities of life and coats them with an outlook of bemused detachment. This is a recurring theme in her books and their true charm.
