What time is it? |
|||
|
Pros: Wonderful comedy with interesting characters and time travel concept
Cons: Nothing really. A bit of a difference in mood between some scenes, but that's it.
The Bottom Line: Who can turn down a time travel romp? Definitely a book worth reading, and it's making me go find some more Willis to read.
Review: To Say Nothing of the Dog, by Connie Willis, is a Victorian time travel romp with some touching moments as well. This is my first Willis, and its very different from what Ive been led to expect from her. Thats why it took me a...

A delightful, comic time travel extravaganza

Pros: Erudite research, droll humor, complex plot.
Cons: Style may be exasperating to some.
Review: It's definitely a love-hate thing I have with Connie Willis. The inimitable style of this Queen of the Non Sequiturs is vividly on display in To Say Nothing of the Dog, a Hugo Award-winning time travel saga brimming with seemingly random...

Pros: Light, clear writing style, real people.
Cons: Willis has only written two long novels. Sob.
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best books you will ever read. Hands down.
Review: I want to be Connie Willis when I grow up!
Two days ago I would have said I've never ready anything by Connie Willis that wasn't blindingly brilliant. Right now I'm in the middle of Remake so I might have to revise that opinion. Check back in... |

Pros: A real bundle of warped and twisted threads of a plot.Great!
Cons: Plot is too twisted for some to follow .
The Bottom Line: A truly individual book written in Willis` very individual style.
Review: "To say nothing of the dog" was the sub-title for Jerome K.Jeromes novel "Three Men in a Boat" and lo and behold the dog ,Montmorency and the three men make cameo appearances in Willis` novel of screwball comedy,time-travel and Victorian ideals.

Pros: Complex and intriguing plot; likable and humorous characters
Cons: cons? in this book?
Review: When I first read Connie Willis's _To Say Nothing of the Dog_, I was driving through Kansas. My mother kept asking me why I was laughing so hard. In a lot of ways, it's difficult to explain the greatness of this book--a lot of people probably wouldn't...

Pros: Delightful story and characters
Cons: It ended
Review: Reading Connie Willis' To Say Nothing of the Dog, one cannot help but compare it to Jack Finney's Time and Again.
Both are marvelously detailed and filled with rich characters. The mechanism each employs to manage time travel is believable... |

Pros: Warm humor
Cons: Connie's style is a love it or leave it kind of thing.
Review: Connie Willis is always a delightful read. And this was a choice example of what makes her books so very much fun to read. Willis knows well the old adage "fools rush in where angels fear to tread". The main characters in her books are the...

Review: "To Say Nothing of the Dog" is a rough sequel to the 1993 Hugo Award Winning "Doomsday Book". While the plots are completely dissimilar (England in the Victorian Era, England in the Dark Ages), the common thread of time travel...

Pros: Well written, excellent plot, and funny.

Review: I purchased this book because the title intrigued me. I did not know the author and at that time the book had not been nominated for any literary awards.
In order to enjoy this story you must get through the first couple of chapters... |
