Counterfeit Lives: To Live and Die in LA

Date of Review:  Apr 23, 2007
The Bottom Line: A very good modern day noir, it has been disrespected by film critics but redeemed by videophiles. Come for the grit, you'll stay for the action.
Review: To Live and Die in LA (1985)

A very dark, gritty look at undercover police work, the movie has proved to be more than many viewers can chew, just as the characters for the most part don't realize what they've gotten themselves into until...

A borderline-psychopathic "lawman" taking down a full-fledged psychopathic artist/villain

Date of Review:  Feb 21, 2007
The Bottom Line: 3.49 stars for this visceral "guy movie" with a preposterous plot, clunky dialogue, and some bravura chases
Review: The insightful things that William Friedkin (Cruising, the Exorcist) said in "Decade Under the Influence" stimulated me to watch his 1985 adaptation with former U. S. Army Intelligence Special Agent Gerald Petievich of Petievich's novel To Live and...

You're Beautiful! (Lean N' Mean 3 W/O )

Date of Review:  Dec 1, 2004
The Bottom Line: 80's action film that's stood the test of time.
Review: Write off detalils here:
http://www.epinions.com/content_4149256324

If you watch this film's trailer, you'd immediately get the sense of a fast lane action buddy cop film replete with car chases and gun action, with the strong 80's...

Counterfeiting and Car Chases, LA Style

Date of Review:  Feb 23, 2004
The Bottom Line: A moderately serious but entertaining film, well worth watching, especially if you're interested in car chases, counterfeiting, or if you're an aficionado of weird Dafoe performances.
Review: I love movies about LA, ranging from Hollywood stories (The Player), comedies (LA Story), to the gritty noir pics based on Walter Mosely and James Ellroy novels (LA Confidential, Devil in a Blue Dress).

But the first and most hard-edged LA...

A Forgotten Gem

Date of Review:  Dec 24, 2002
The Bottom Line: For a film that is really intense and will keep you interested, try this one. It's definitely worth the rental money.
Review: In most action movies, there is always a character that everybody loves. The virtuous one, the one who goes after the villain without reckless abandon. This movie is a little different than that age-old formula.

To Live and Die in L.A. is...

Friend or Da Foe

Date of Review:  Dec 12, 2000
Review: To Live and Die in LA, is an LA movie all the way. I saw it years ago and didn't really remember it much. I had the excellent Wang Chung LP and was listening to it and decided to rewatch it. I recently snatched it up on Ebay, look out it goes for a...

Nasty going ons in the city of angels.

Date of Review:  Aug 12, 2000
Review: "To Live and die in L.A" is a violent, swift and nullifying experience about some really nasty folk who live, kill and die in L.A.

The characters in Friedkin's film are an unlikeable bunch involved in all sorts of criminal mischief, both...
