I Was Skeptical
Date of Review: Apr 19, 2005
The Bottom Line: This is a sound producing machine that will make you happy.
A few years ago, my Dad bought a Tivoli radio and told me to come over to his house. He stated that the sound on his new radio was incredible, and when I saw it, I tried not to laugh. How could such a small radio produce great sound that could fill up the whole lower level of the house? What seemed impossible at the time, soon made me aware that great things can come in small packages. My Dad turned it on to a local rock station, and the radio produced rich sound that one would expect from an expensive large speaker system.
I finally gave in to the Tivoli urge, and bought one this past winter. It sits in my kitchen, and I absolutely love it. I usually like to listen music while I read the newspaper in the morning, and I have put all varieties to the test with my Model One. Every style sounds great on it, and the one speaker produces an outstanding range with impressive bass and treble capabilities. Even the news channel comes across clearly, and this radio has outstanding quality in picking up even stubborn stations on the FM and AM frequencies. Its external antenna does a great job and should be commended. If I crank the volume up to the highest level, I can hear the radio throughout most of the house. Even at this high setting, the sound quality is fantastic and cannot be beat.
The size is the best feature, and my Model One sits right on my kitchen tabletop. Total dimensions are 8"x4"x5.25", and weight is only 5 lbs. It is very attractive looking, and it has a classic antique look to it. The unit is made out of maple colored wood, and it has a green face. The little sound producing speaker is on the left side, with the large frequency knob on the right side. In the middle are two smaller circular knobs, which control volume, and the on/off, AM/FM band selections. It is very easy to use, and to manipulate what channel you want on both frequencies.
Tivoli offers a one year parts and labor warranty, and comes with the antenna, 9 foot power cord, and users manual.
