Titus: Shakespeare written for the big screen

|
Pros: Gorgeous sets and costumes, amazing acting, incredible story
Cons: Slightly gross at times, Shakespearean language isn't always easy to understand
Review: Titus Andronicus is considered Shakespeares worst play by many Shakespearean experts. Maybe thats because Shakespeare wrote a screenplay, not something for a single stage.
Titus is a massive tale of revenge, family, honor, betrayal, and... |

Actual Title Banned for Bloatedness..

Pros: Lange and Hopkins and (Lucius' son) and the gobbleable-good images.
Cons: That hokey-Hammer-horrible "Revenge, Murder, Rape" scene, not the bathtub part.
The Bottom Line: The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Pedals on a wet, black bough.
- Ezra Pound
Review: Actual Title: What Does All of This Titus (Former Sylabble)age Mean to Titus(Latter Sylabble)? Title Subject to Change Pending Reaction of Militant Moralists.
Not a dowsabel-delighter, but a truly sanguineous piece (there is not a mensch-moral... |

A little-known Shakespeare masterpiece presented with true Elizabethan panache.

Pros: Great acting surrounded by stunning presentation, no holds barred.
Cons: If you thought "Silence of the Lambs" was too much, this isn't for you.
The Bottom Line: This is a supreme example of grand guignol, superbly acted, superbly staged. Shakespeare, the master of Elizabethan hyperbole in presentation, would have been thrilled.
Review: There is no little debate about what "Titus [Andronicus]" actually is. When Shakespeare entered the playwriting business, the playgoing public was very much into what we would now call Gothic horror. This is the era of "The Duchess of Malfi" and other...

Titus: Woefullest Man in All of Rome

Pros: wonderful acting by Hopkins and Lange, the updating didn't hurt it at all
Cons: Tons of gore, violence, meanness and nudity
Review: As one of those American oddities who actually enjoys Shakespeare and reads his many works just for the heck of it, I had long awaited this film to video. Despite my initial worries that the updating of the visual part of it would be horrendous, I still...

Titus Triumphant

Pros: A profoundly thought-provoking, highly theatrical examination of contemporary violence shot through with deep meaning and jaw-dropping visuals.
Cons: The violence comes thick and fast and it's intense -- there's no way to really distance yourself from it, which probably has to do with Taymor's theatrical roots. Some scenes and performances also seem to willingly risqué.
Review: Titus is intense. It fills its viewers with mounting dread, but its violence offers no visceral kick-it's presented with a blunt barbarism that sets a profound discomfort in the audience. It's a film about pure evil, but it's not willing to simply...

Pros: Amazing acting, great plot, art direction and cinematography to die for
Cons: Some ideas don't work 100%
The Bottom Line: For me, this film was an out-of-body experience and one that I will not soon forget. But, I don't see most audiences seeing it this way, so be warned.
Review: Titus, based on Shakespeare's play of similar name, is the story of a Roman general who's life is, to say the least, full of violence and the sadness it causes.
The plot is quite complicated, so I won't spend a terrible amount of time on it,... |

Pros: Fabulous
Cons: Dark, Kafkaesque
Review: I had never seen or heard much about Shakespeares Titus Andronicus, But may I say I loved this film. A modern adaptation of this play starring the stunningly brilliant Sir Anthony Hopkins, and Alan Cumming. It combines Modern and Roman motifs and...

Pros: Compelling performances by great actors, fast paced, action packed.
Cons: Not for the week stomached.
The Bottom Line: In my Top 10 Movies, (http://www.epinions.com/content_2040504452) I rated Titus as my third best movie. I thought it was spectacular, and think that all those craving an adventure should see it.
Review: I remember seeing this movie two months ago for the first time. Instantly the movie with its amazing plot became an instant favorite. It is fast paced and carries many plot kicks. The actors did an amazing job in realizing each of the characters and in...

Pros: Striking visual imagery, superb performances, a wonderful interpretation of the play
Cons: Very long --if you dislike the Bard
Review: Granted, Shakespeare, especially a full three hour's worth is not every film-viewer's cup of tea, or blood-wine in this case. But, Julie Taymor's production of Titus will elicit wows for viewers with an attention span beyond Gladiator or Erin...

Pros: Hopkins, Lange & Cummings are riveting. Taymor is a visionary!
Cons: Some might see the ending as a sort of cop-out
Review: IF Will Shakespeare and Martin Scorsese ever decided to do a movie adaptation of one of his plays, it would be "Titus Andronicus". It has the perfect mixture of blood, sex and betrayal. However, that match never did happen, but we have...
