Author's Review
On April 10, 1912 the beautiful unsinkable Titanic set sail from Southampton to America, with over 2,200 souls on board. But, four days later the Titanic hit an iceberg at 11:40pm in the North Atlantic. At 2:20am April 15, 1912 the Titanic saw its final glimpse of the beautiful world above, before it sank to the bottom of the ocean.
James Cameron wanted to bring the beauty of the Titanic to life in film, and brought along two fictionalized characters (Jack and Rose) that fall in love aboard the doomed ship. Along with James Horners beautiful music and James Camerons beautiful ship you feel like youre aboard the Titanic yourself.
James Horners scores are beautiful, haunting and tells you the story of the Titanic and the love triangle between Jack (Leonardo Dicaprio, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape), Rose (Kate Winslet, Sense & Sensibility) and her fiancé Cal (Billy Zane, Tales From The Crypts Demon Knight) through its melodies.

The composition Never An Absolution is a haunting yet beautiful piece. You will hear bits and pieces of this in the beginning of the movie and at the end when the souls of Rose and Jack are reunited after 84 years apart. There is some vocals, well more like ah ah ah and humming done by Sissel. Never An Absolution is so powerful it will take you onto the lifeboats with the passengers and make it feel you are there waiting right along with them.
The composition Distant Memories is the music you hear when Titanic is getting ready to set sail to America. It has a mixture of sad and happy melodies to make it a beautiful, but haunting song.
The composition Southampton has a mixture of sad and happy music. This is the music you hear when the old Rose begins telling the story of her journey on the Titanic. The music is telling how when the passengers get on the Titanic their lives are about to change, but it gets sad because it will never happen for most of them.
The composition Rose is the music you mostly hear when Rose and Jack are together. You hear it when Jack is teaching Rose to fly on the front of the Titanic, and they share their first kiss. It is a beautiful, yet haunting melody of two forbidden lovers who enjoy 4 wonderful days together before it comes to a tragic end.
The composition Leaving Port is the music you hear when Titanic set sail and when Jack is at the front of the ship screaming Im king of the world. This is a beautiful piece that starts out slow and gets faster in the middle and slows down again at the end. The orchestra did a wonderful job with this piece.
The composition Take Her To Sea, Mr. Murduch is the music you hear after the captain tells Mr. Murdoch to turn on all the engines and see what the Titanic is made of and stretch her legs. This is a beautiful yet haunting piece, mostly because you know what is about to happen because all the engines where turned on to soon.
The composition Hard To Starboard has haunting music and happy sounds mixed in. The sad parts are the music you hear when the Titanic is getting close to the iceberg and the boiler room workers, and everyone is rushing around trying to turn the ship before it hits. The beginning of the song is happy because this is what you hear when Rose and Jack are happy together, then it turns when the Titanic hits the iceberg.
The composition Unable To Stay, Unwilling To Leave is heard when Rose gets into a boat and Jack and Cal are on the Titanic watching the lifeboat get lowered into the ocean. It is also heard when Jack and Roses souls reunite after 84 years apart. This is a beautiful, powerful piece that makes you feel like you are aboard the Titanic.
The composition The Sinking is heard when the Titanic is getting ready to sink, and showing scenes of passengers before the ship goes under. This is a beautiful, yet haunting piece because it is about the sinking and death of the Titanic and its many passengers.
The composition Death Of Titanic is heard when the Titanic is sinking, mostly when the stern detaches from the bow and goes down vertically. This is also a powerful, haunting piece, despite what scenes are being shown when you hear it.
The composition A Promise Kept is heard after Rose is picked up by a lifeboat and the other lifeboats arrive at the Carpathia. This is a beautiful and powerful piece of music.
The composition A Life So Changed is heard when the Carpathia arrives in America. This is a beautiful piece of music. It is telling the promises Rose kept to Jack that she would go on no matter what.
The composition An Ocean Of Memories is heard after the Titanic sinks and it shows everyone in the water. You also hear it when you see the passengers in the lifeboats waiting to be saved. This is a haunting piece of music because it tells of the death of many loved ones who were aboard the Titanic.
The song My Heart Will Go On is the love theme from Titanic. Celine Dion puts so much emotion into this song you almost feel like you were aboard the Titanic with Rose and Jack. It tells of how love can go on even after one of them dies, and they will live in their heart forever. Love can touch us one time and last us a lifetime, and never let go till were gone, Love was when I loved you, one true time I hold to, in my life well always go on. This is a beautiful love song that makes you smile all the way through it.
The composition Hymn To The Sea is heard throughout the whole movie it different scenes. It is mostly heard after the Titanic sank, and after it the iceberg. This is a beautiful and haunting piece.
The Titanic Original Soundtrack won for best original score, James Horner. Also, for best song "My Heart Will Go On", Celine Dion.
Every time I listen to this album or watch the movie I can't help but cry. It is a tragic event that really happen and many lifes were lost on that fateful night. I can't begin to imagine what was going through the minds of the real passengers after the Titanic hit that iceberg, and when the ship was sinking.
Even if you didnt like the movie, the Titanic soundtrack is a must listen to album. The album is full of classical, powerful, uplifting saddening music and beautiful instrumental music. James Horner puts so much into his music it makes you feel you are aboard the Titanic from the time it set sail to its final glimpse of the night sky. It makes you feel what the passengers are going through in their last 2 hours.
