A real tearjerker

This is a great movie. I have seen in countless times, and it still holds my interest. First I must tell you that I really enjoy movies that show disasters, such as tornados, floods, fires,earthquakes etc. So this was right up my alley.

If you know the story of the Titanic, and I believe at least most people have heard of it, this gives a personalized account of the tragedy. It is easy to read about history, but often hard to relate to it without having real people act it out. This movie does just that.

It does not matter that many parts may have been fictionalized, the point is that this really happened, and by seeing the huge ship and all the people, it reminds us what really happened to that boat.

The love story piece added to the history, and made it a hit movie, without that, it would have been the same documentary we can see on PBS. The acting of the two young stars was believable and you began to really care what happened to them and the thousands of others lost.

Without giving away details, although by now I suspect most have seen it since it has been on HBO, there are some parts that really make an impact.
First, as the boat is sinking and the survivors are in the lifeboats, it is hard to imagine what those people were really going through, seeing their husbands die and they were helpless.
Second, when the survivors were on the decks of the Carpathia, the reality of that situation was heart-wrenching. They saw the boat sink, but yet they were still hopeful that their loved ones made it out alive.

Overall this is a great movie depicting a piece of history many are interested in. My 9 year old son also loves this movie, and he has now done more reading on the subject, but he first got many facts just from watching this movie. The love scene is not so appropriate, but it is done tastefully and leaves much to your imagination.

If you hve not seen it, take a few hours and watch it, then watch it again to see all that you missed the first time.
