Unforgettable! --The Titanic (DVD)

by   dlstewart ,  Aug 10, 2007
Pros: Barbara Stanwyck, Clifton Webb, Robert Wagner, Thelma Ritter -- excellent storyline, film quality, cinematography, sound
Cons: some might be upset by historical inaccuracies ... or that fiction is mixed with fact
The Bottom Line: A fictional story set against the backdrop of the Titanic disaster. A compelling storyline despite some flaws. This review is filled with detail about the DVD film and extras.
Review: As I write this review, I am again sitting here watching the movie Titanic starring Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb. This is one of my favorite Titanic movies. It never fails to emotionally touch me. The tragic voyage of the Titanic is ...

This is a Must See!

by   jroberts80 ,  Mar 6, 2000
Pros: great love story
Cons: It masde me cry
Review: Titanic has to be one of the very best movies it have ever seen. This is a true classic,
people will still be talking about Titanic in the next century. The Gone With the Wind of
the 1990’s. To start with I love Leonardo DeCaperio, he is so...

A Shipboard Companion

by   Jaynrand ,  Jul 28, 2002
Pros: Performances of Webb & Stanwyck. Oscar-winning screenplay.
Cons: Not historically accurate as we NOW know.
The Bottom Line: A terrific personal story propels us to the inevitable conclusion.
Review: I clicked on this - one of my favorite movies - and found that all the reviews here now (7/02) are of the James Cameron version of 'Titanic.' Some uninformed people who can't read or click correctly are leaving their Epinions about that film here. STOP ...

Nearer, My God, to Thee: Titanic

by   George_Chabot , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jul 22, 2004
Pros: Story, Acting, Cinematography
Cons: Read the review
The Bottom Line: A good retelling of the 1912 disaster that shocked the world made better by a superior set of extras that does the DVD proud. See Titanic (1953) !
Review: ”It was a midnight on the sea, The band was playing, ‘Nearer, my God, to Thee,’ Fare thee, Titanic, Fare thee well!” Leadbelly Certain events have a way of working themselves into folklore (or pop culture) and the sinking of ...

Pros: >>
Cons: >>
The Bottom Line: __________

All Hands On Deck

by   mfsibley ,  Jun 26, 2004
Pros: The class act of Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb, with great assist by Thelma Ritter!
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: It's great to be able to compare this earlier version with the overblown production that followed it. See what REAL screenwriting can accomplish!
Review: Titanic. Even the word makes us stop to pull immediate memories of what has been projected throughout countless history lessons, books, movies and articles. Who among us has not heard the story of that fateful night in the North Atlantic? Titanic. It ...

Too popular?

by   Ahab1973 ,  Nov 24, 2000
Pros: Fantastic special effects, good acting and direction
Cons: It has a few redundant characters
Review: This movie was too popular for it's own good. There is such a thing as a movie being too successful. For some reason, many such movies get black balled by the film critic community.

I will start my review of Titanic by stating that I have...

Definately deserved the Oscars

by   chakka26 ,  Apr 5, 2000
Pros: Realistic and well acted
Cons: It was a bit too long
Review: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet portray class-crossed lovers in James Cameron's gargantuan movie Titanic. DiCaprio is Jack Dawson, a poor boy flowing with the wind who wins tickets for the Titanic in a card game. Winslet plays Rose, an...

"All passengers go to their cabins and put on lifejackets."

by   alexdg1 ,  Jul 15, 2007
Pros: It ends after 90 minutes
Cons: Screenplay is trite, the melodrama is awful, and the historical details are all wrong
The Bottom Line: The ending of this story is not a mystery, so filmmakers need to come up with new ways to get viewers to watch Titanic-themed films...even boring ones like this.
Review: Until the infamous Big Switch of 1988 – when three television stations in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market switched network affiliation – Channel Six was a popular independent channel with the call letters WCIX (for Six…how clever). As was ...

overhyped, overrated

by   moosechops ,  Dec 13, 2000
Pros: Excellent special effects...
Cons: but you have to wait so long to get to them
Review: Titanic being given an Academy Award for best picture I think was one of the biggest embarassments of the year. The fact that such a large percentage of the audience that attended this movie were teenage girls should be a major sign of that.
