A reliably close shave!
Date of Review: Jan 27, 2007
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this if you're looking for good value. I am giving it 4 stars only because the maintenance is odd.
I had bought this a couple years back after my Panasonic Wet/Dry shaver went kaput. The charge wouldn't hold and it kept grabbing my skin painfully.
I was referred to Remington because of its longstanding name and giving a great shave every time.
Overview
And it holds up to its name! The Remington MS2-370 Titanium has been lasting ever since. The design is very easy to use and ergonomic. The hydrophilic rubber grip is placed exactly where it needs to be to prevent hand slippage. It has a really good feel and lots of control.
Use
Since I have a really edgy chin, rounding some corners is quite a challenge. I tend to miss bits of my chin - but this is just by habit. Now I feel my face before I stop shaving. The MS2-370 covers every area well. My face feels smooth after every shave. I've actually never felt a closer shave than this! I think the Titanium foil really helps in giving the close shave because of its flexibility.
Of course, there is one flaw for during use - the trimmer button gets accidentally pushed from time to time. You have to be really conscious of where and how you grip the shaver. One wrong move and the trimmer pops up - then you have to push it back down. I know it only takes a second, but it can get sometimes annoying.
Maintenance
I clean my shaver after every use. This is the only way to keep the shaver having a long life. The double-ended brush is extremely useful for cleaning. It has a short, broad end and a longer narrow end to clean the trouble areas. I use the short broad end first to get out the majority of the hair debris. The way you do this is quite a production. You have to hold the blade head in place by pinching them on the sides or they will pop right out. The design of how the arm holds the blades is quite odd. But I suppose they are like that so it moves better with the foil screen.
Then I use the long end to clean around the head. I make sure nothing is built-up inside the shaver. The rubber boot that covers the moving arms is a nice design to do that.
Remington also recommends that the foil and/or heads are replaced every six months. That's for some really hairy people! Otherwise, if you keep your shaver clean every time, there's no need to replace it for that often.
Battery/Charging
This is a really convenient feature. You can operate the shave with a cord, (which also charges the unit) or keep it disconnected using only the battery. The battery lasts a good two weeks. I like to keep a better charge so the motor runs faster - this also gives a closer shave. The indicator tells you its charge progress by how fast it flickers. The faster it flickers, the more charge is required.
Price
In Canada, the shaver was actually price very right at Canadian Tire. It was just below the higher-end Braun unit and above the cheaper, non-Titanium foil shavers.
Conclusion
Overall, it is a great shaver. If I wanted to spend more money, I probably would have gone to one of those self-cleaning Braun shavers. What I really want to see is how long this shaver will last. My last one had a 5-7 year life. I'm hoping this will last me a good 10 years. We shall see!
