My Experience with the Thermaltake 3.5" ESATA – USB 2.0 External Enclosure
After my last desktop had a catastrophic failure, I decided that I needed to have a first rate backup plan. The old computer had two hard drives and after installing a third one something went wrong, damaging the primary drive beyond repair! To make matters worse, many recent files were not backed up and may of the CD backups we had failed to read properly.
When I purchased a new computer, we also bought a second matching hard drive and this enclosure to use for backups. And it was a lifesaver. Our new machine had its hard drive fail and we were ready to go with the drive stored in the Thermaltake.
The nicest feature that the Thermaltak enclosure is its hot swap ability when connect to an external ESATA port. It is like having a giant flash drive, only a billion times faster. Of course the drive installed in the enclosure must be an ESATA hard drive and you computer must have a SATA motherboard and external SATA port (the ports are cheap and easy to install)
I have used this enclosure with both the SATA – ESATA connection and IDE – USB2.0 connection and both have performed outstanding. It has been connected to a number of desktop and laptop computers. Even though I have a SATA drive in it, I can use the USB2.0 connection to connect to and backup computers that are not ESATA equipped.
I have actually thought about buying another of these enclosures and an additional drive to store at some remote location. I could then swap them occasionally as an additional backup procedure.
