Two Novels Are Better Than One

I recently finished The World According To Garp for my term paper and must say, it is a VERY interesting book. If you are one of those people who reads a page and then puts the book down to watch TV, then this is the book that you should read because it will be the only one that you can get through.
With more plot twists than characters, Irving portrays the morbid world of T.S. Garp and his mother Jenny Fields. The problem that I have with this book is the length. The book could have easily been divided into two: with the second half being the sequel. By making it such a lengthy read, Irving also adds numerous themes. Which one is the right one? This question plagues many students as they are preparing their papers on this book. Even Irving himself had no idea. He had to ask his son, who told him that the fear of death is the theme.
This book definitely tops my list of favorite books. However, sensationalism seems to over take this novel and slightly draw away from the plot. I still recommend this book for anyone looking for a good read!
