Author's Review
A few years ago, just before Frank Sinatra went to that great recording studio in the sky, we were gathered in Cleveland at my parents house for Thanksgiving. A bunch of us noticed my Dad and his mother (my Grandmother) glued to the TV out in the family room. They were sitting in exactly the same positions and were the spitting image of each other as they were mesmerized by something on TV. Was it the Lions game? Nope. McNeil Lehrer News Hour? Nope. It was a two-hour tribute to Frank Sinatra. Some of us younger folk chuckled and shook our heads as they said things to each other like First Class all the way and Amazing. That was their music, not mine, I thought to myself.
Well, after thoroughly enjoying a two CD collection of The Chairman of the Boards Greatest Hits (The Very Best of Frank Sinatra) I have different thoughts now! So much of this music really IS the music of my life, too, (and Im only in my 30s), and much of it brought back wonderful, funny, memories from my childhood and beyond. I had no idea Sinatra had SO MANY AMAZING HITS ! Its pretty incredible really.
This collection was put out by Reprise Records, the company Frank became huge with, along some other folks you may have heard of: Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington to name a few. This is THE collection you need to get for all of his classic hits. Many of them were recorded in Hollywood as my mother was in labor miles away in New York, pushing me into the world so I could go on to become kevlog at Epinions!
Whats in here? Everything, baby!
For fans of Married With Children and the goofball Bundys, theres Love and Marriage.
Wave. This is a classic elevator music tune, but as I age I realize just how fun and jazzy it really is!!! Im sure my brothers and I made fun of it as kids!
Just catch that wave and dont be afraid of loving me You gotta love it.
For all you gung ho we won again Yankee fans out there (and Mets fans, too) theres Franks final big hit recorded in 1979. Can you guess this one??? Yep, New York, New York. Not real popular with us Red Sox fans but a great tune.
My Way. You can just hear Frank singing this in a smoky bar, telling his tale for all to ponder. Much more than this, I did it my way
.! Thereve been times when weve all bit off more than we could chew, eh????
Strangers in the Night. Come on, who hasnt thought of this song many times throughout this goofy cocktail party we call life??? As a kid I used to do a ventriloquist gig using this song. Its a pretty easy song to do if youre a ventriloquist. Try it!
I get a Kick Out of You. I wouldnt have mentioned this one but as we were putting our cherubs to bed tonight, this song was playing as my daughter kicked my son in the shin during a sibling rivalry incident! It was a classic life moment!
A few other great ones youll find here: Thats Life, Witchcraft (I love this one!), Young at Heart, Luck Be a Lady, Ive got you under my Skin (I sang this to my boss once with a different meaning!), The Best is Yet to Come, and many many more!
If you like Sinatra and dont have this collection, go out and get it!! Soon!
The songs will take you on a fantastic, swinging, whirlwind tour of some of the great music in America during the past few decades!
Thanks for Reading!
I faced it all and I stood tall! I did this Epinion MY WAY. Yeah, BABY!
(side note: Microsoft Word doesnt recognize Sinatra and suggests Sumatra as a replacement word. Geez, get hip Gates will ya?)
