The Universe in a Book?

I had to read The Universe Next Door for a freshman seminar class I had at my school. It looked really interesting- it tells about different theologies and religions. I thought that this was a good thing because it's always nice to know about religions and theologies of different people. But this book wasn't quite what I expected.

Sure, the book told about what it set out to tell. It describe what different people believe. And it did so in a straightforward way too. It was very informative. But there was one thing about the book that I didn't like; the fact that it had a very condescending tone against any religion that the author wasn't. This bothered me. I know that all people believe in their religion for their own reasons, and I am sure the writer is no different. And I also tend to disagree with the religions described in the book for various reasons. But I would never slam another religion like that because it doesn't help anything. If the author was trying to convert people by putting other views in a negative light, I don't think it would work. I might not agree with other religions, but I am not going to get people to see about mine if I am going to act all rude and condescending about theirs.

Basically, this book was rather mediocre. It was informative, but I didn't like the way in which the information was put forth. If I were you, I would look for another book on the subject if at all possible, but if not, this book is okay if you ignore the tone of it.
