Author's Review
What can I say, but WOW! I have watched the odd episode on television and I asked for it for Christmas. Well, I got it and in three days I watched the entire first season. I was so hypnotized by the characters played by James Gandofini, Lorraine Bracco and all the others. I couldn't believe the emotions that this show stirred. I wanted to be part of this family. The closest I got, unfortunately, was 10 feet from my television screen.
The story of the Soprano family is so huge that I often forgot minor details in one show till they made mention of it in another. So then of course, I was drawn back to rewatching it and I would notice other tidbits of information I hadn't focused on. It was great because I never felt like I was watching the same episode.
The characters are so deep that I felt like I knew them. They couldn't have picked a better actor to play Tony Soprano than James Gandolfini. His character portrayal is honest, deep and emotional at times. You feel for him as he deals with his wife, his kids, his "job" and all the other elements of his life.
According to others that I know that have watched the show, they consider the language vulgar, but consider this, would it be "The Sopranos" if it didn't have the vulgarity. I can honestly say that after watching all thirteen episodes of the first season, after the 4th or 5th episode, I didn't really notice anymore. It seemed to fit the scenes.
I consider this a great show. So great, that I went to the store and bought the entire 2nd season the very next day after watching the first season. I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next.
A must see for most. If vulgar language is a problem, then overlook it for something more tame. However, if you want to enjoy a program with depth, great character acting and a true sense of "family" loyalty, watch the Sopranos.
