Author's Review
I know all of us have heard of the incredible, new, innovative, brings you into the action show, The Sopranos. Many people thought it was just hype and the show would die down sooner or later just like every other sitcom mafia show that preceded it, but not this show. This show actually WAS different, actually WAS innovative and new.
The Sopranos airs on HBO, and instantly became a hit. The star cast of James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, Dominic Chianese, and many others make this show as fantastic as it is. Many people are sick of the mafia shows constantly depicting Italians as mobsters, but I have met a few people who have actually enjoyed this show because it dared to be different and that is what got people hooked.
The basic plot is as follows ( it of course changes from episode to episode): Tony Soprano and his wife Carmella have two children, Tony Jr. and Meadow. After Tony's close friend Jackie Apriel dies of cancer, rightfully his Uncle "Junior" Corrado as some call him , should be head of the North Jersey branch but when he realizes his nephew Tony has more of a say in what goes on than he does, he becomes irritated and wants back what is rightfully his. They have heated discussions and conflicts throughout the season.
Tony who is constantly being torn between his at home family and his Mafia family begins having anxiety attacks and ends up needing to see a psychiatrist to deal with his problems. Afraid of loosing his marriage and his children he seeks help with this psychiatrist, knowing full well that if this ever got out to anybody, that it would destroy his career.
Each episode has many different story lines going on at the same time to entice the viewer to keep watching. Just when an exciting part will happen they will cut the scene and move to another. This unique way of writing surely paid off, that is easily seen by the success of the show.
One thing I do have to STRESS though is that the show is by no way, shape, or form, appropriate for children. The vulgar language used constantly by ALL characters throughout the show (including Tony Junior who is 15 years old) is not meant to be heard by younger viewers. The rather frequent nudity, which does fit into the plot it is not just for the heck of it that they throw it in, is also certainly not appropriate for younger children.
I could go on and on about this movie's plot but as some may know it is a bit hard to write a plot summary on a constantly changing sitcom. I do hope that I have given enough details though to spark an interest in the show. I sincerely mean it when I say give it a try. You never know, you could enjoy it!
