The Sopranos: It's a Family Affair |
|||||
|
Pros: Surely one of the strangest things to come out of Hollywood in years.
Cons: The adult content is way up there, not for children and most adults.
The Bottom Line: Violent, at times very unlikeable, you still can't help but watch this modern morality tale.
Review: Pity poor Tony. Despite a career in what he coyly terms "Waste Management Consulting," his life is rapidly going to hell. Enough to where he's going to see a psychiatrist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi (Lorraine Bracco). And that's the problem -- if anyone he knows...

Pros: Excellent story line, keeps you coming back
Cons: Not for children, graphic violence, vulgar language, nudity
The Bottom Line: The show is truly fantastic. The unique form of writing and constant twists and turns in the story keep the viewer coming back for more.
Review: I know all of us have heard of the incredible, new, innovative, brings you into the action show, The Sopranos. Many people thought it was just hype and the show would die down sooner or later just like every other sitcom mafia show that preceded it, but...

Review: A friend let me borrow his copy of The Sopranos: The Complete First Season on DVD, and I am very impressed. The show is full of great writing and acting. No wonder it won so many awards. Some of the awards the first season won are Five wins at...

Pros: Has anyone ever made organized crime figures (and their family members) so multi-dimensional?
Cons: As gritty, foul-mouthed, and volatile as you'd expect a show about mobsters to be.
The Bottom Line: If you thought Goodfellas brought out the entertaining side of gangsters, imagine an 86 episode series that's even more outstanding. The Bada Bing starts here, baby.
Review: Ive been thinking for quite some time that television truly is an instrument of the Devil (well, if I believed in the Devil, I would think that). Like most people who grew up in Western civilization, it played no small role in my early development, but ...

Pros: Everything
Cons: ....
The Bottom Line: The greatest thing HBO has ever done
Review: When talking about great mobster films, The Sopranos is overlooked, simply because it isnt a movie, it is a television series. However The Sopranos is so uncomprehendingly good that I have to write a review on it. A slight warning, this is ...

Pros: Excellent acting; outstanding writing; interesting plot lines; perfect casting; IT'S THE BEST!
Cons: Quite violent; lots of profanity; nudity; sexual content.
Review: Before I ever saw the first episode of 'The Sopranos' on HBO in 1999, I knew that this was a story that would interest me. The previews promised a unique look at the subject matter of life in the mafia and how the pressures of life at the end of the...

Pros: Excellent cast and script, some of the best one-liners since Seinfeld
Cons: Can be accused of showing Italian Americans in a stereotypical and negative light
The Bottom Line: Not your typical mafia drama. Excellent writing and acting make this show suspenseful without being over the top.
Review: Recently I was talking with my sister on the phone and she started laughing. Whats up? I asked her. Oh, I just rented another episode of the Sopranos. You should watch it. Its hilarious.
Hilarious? I thought it was a mob drama ... |

Pros: Interesting dialogue, keeps you on your toes
Cons: Leaves you hanging on some scenes....waiting for more
The Bottom Line: A must see!!! You will be going crazy at the end to find out what happens next. I know I was.
Review: What can I say, but WOW! I have watched the odd episode on television and I asked for it for Christmas. Well, I got it and in three days I watched the entire first season. I was so hypnotized by the characters played by James Gandofini, Lorraine...

Pros: characters, plots
Cons: none yet
The Bottom Line: If you are hooked on the mob, excuse me: I mean the "waste management" business, you have to make this a part of your collection.
Review: Sometimes I think Im turning into Tony Soprano.
Tony Soprano is a middle-aged wiseguy with a normal family, going through some middle-aged life crisis. Hes got a job in the waste management business thats been placing all kinds of stress... |

Pros: Widescreen!
Cons: NO SUBTITLES!
Review: The Sopranos first season of DVD is spectacular. The show itself is good enough to have been done by Scorcese and James Gandolfini is the next De Niro. Watch the first episode at someone's house who has HBO and you will be hooked like you won't believe....
