I love this movie.
Date of Review: Mar 23, 2000
I saw this movie twice in the theater (I hardly ever do that).
And I plan to rent it several times.
If you have not seen this movie yet, rent it, cover your ears whenever anyone who already has seen it tries to tell you the end, and grab a bunch of friends so that you can all have a good laugh when you either jump or scream several times during the viewing.
Also prepare yourself for the performance of Haley Joel Osment. Either during the movie or afterwards, you will likely want to do any of the following: (a)adopt him (b) see him in a myriad of movies (c) wish you could fast forward time to see if he's still around as an actor when he gets older (because you will sure hope so. If he's already acting at this level now, who knows what he'll be capable of as an adult) (d) repeatedly questioning how someone so young can be so extraordinarily talented.
Of course Bruce Willis was good.
The woman who played the role of the mother was also really good. There are some great and touching mother/son scenes in this movie as she tries to deal with the difficulty of having a son who is not "normal."
The plot is that Bruce Willis is a psychologist who tries to help a boy who "sees dead people." The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was pretty scary and was pretty knocked out by the originality of the ending. The second time, I enjoyed it more on a dramatic, psychological kind of level. Who knows the next time, but I can't wait to find out.
