Serious I Am, This Movie Is Full Of Suspense

I know that many before me have written reviews on this movie but it merits my attention too. I waited until I saw it twice before I wrote a review. There is so much you miss watching it only once.

Bruce Willis plays Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychologist who has been recognized and honored by the Mayor of Philadelphia. He is married to Anna (Olivia Williams). He begins to treat a youngster named Cole, played by the Oscar nominated actor, Haley Joel Osment. His mother Lynn, also an Oscar nominated actress in a supporting role, is played by Toni Collette.

From the opening of this movie to the end, you are on the edge of your seat. The story centers around Cole and his visions of dead people. Haley's acting is superb as he is frightened by what is happening to him. Toni Williams plays Cole's mother who loves her son and is trying to help him, although she has no idea what is wrong with him. She does take note of Cole's pictures on the wall, with a ray of light in each photograph. There are some really intense, well acted scenes between mother and son. When Cole finally confesses to his mother that he sees ghosts and he tells his mother that his dead grandmother visits him sometimes. He reveals the conversation he had with his grandmother, and mentions something he could not have known, his mother cries. At this point, I believe his mother knows he's telling the truth.

Bruce Willis is also wonderful in his role as a psychologist. His job is not only has to help the boy, but to figure out what is happening in his own life. I honestly believe that he is a terrific actor but never gets the credit he deserves.

As I mentioned before, there were 6 Academy Award nominations for The Sixth Sense: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing and Best Original Screenplay. This movie is one that I would recommend you watching not once, but twice.
