Best movie of 1999, and one of my favorites of all time

The "Sixth Sense" is a movie that will haunt you long after you've seen it. Although this movie is considered predominantly a thriller, I believe it combines elements of drama and mystery to create a perfect masterpiece of a movie. The story revolves around Dr. Malcolm Crowe (played to perfection by Bruce Willis) and his hard work as a child psychologist.

One day, a patient he once tried to help, breaks into his home in a hysterical state, and blames him for failing him. From that point on, nothing is the same in Malcolm's life, because he cannot forgive himself for letting this patient down and his personal life falls into turmoil as a result. In an attempt to get his career back on track, he meets with a young boy named Cole Sear (in an Oscar-nominated breathtaking performance by Haley Joel Osment) who exhibits many of the same problems illustrated by the former patient he could not help. It turns out that the boy has a horrible curse, where he sees dead people and is written off as a psychotic freak by his peers and adults in his life.

Malcolm and Cole form an unbreakable bond, and they work together to help one another in conquering their fears and alleviating their pain. There is a huge twist in the end, that is entirely unexpected and it is much better to go into this movie knowing nothing about it, so that the surprise isn't ruined for you. This movie was extremely moving, because you truly care about the characters and want to see them end up happy. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good story of a bond between two people in different positions (i.e., good will hunting) and to people who appreciate movies with a shocking twist (i.e, usual suspects, fight club.)

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who has a deep appreciation for brilliant film making.
