by   fjw123 ,   Jun 13, 2002

Pros:  such a small magazine that holds literary genius every month!!

Cons:  none

The Bottom Line:  honestly, the best literary magazine around. you get it all at this one-stop-shop.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I was sitting here thinking just how I came was introduced to “The Sun.” Oh, I remember. It came in the mail: this subscription. At that time, I was honing in on my writing and taking online classes, subscribing to different magazines, and reading all sorts of stuff. I guess my name got dumped in the database where “The Sun” lay waiting to introduce itself.

And boy, am I glad that I took a chance and subscribed. This has been one of the most rewarding things that I’ve ever run across. I love this magazine. It’s so diverse; so different; so thought provoking.

Really, I have no other magazine to compare to it. I’ve not run across anything like it.

Every month, I anxiously await the arrival of my magazine. It takes me about a month to read this tiny magazine because I don’t want to miss one word, so I read it in quiet, peaceful places.

Everything is artistically done. There is black-and-white photography [that graces each page of short stories, poetry, etc.] that takes your breath away.
I am an aspiring self-taught photographer and I plan on submitting some of my photographs here because I take things like this magazine buys.

There are thought provoking short stories, interviews, and awesome poetry. In fact, I fell in love with Alison Luterman by reading this magazine. She is now one of my favorite poets.

My favorite sections:

Readers Write is a section that readers submit comments on different subjects that are discussed each month. Each magazine tells you the submission date and the particular subject in order to get your article published. Subjects like mothers and daughters, loneliness, fear, water, etc.

Each time I read this section, I realize how much people may have been through. How someone else’s life was so much harder than mine, or even how someone was able to forgive a devastating act from another person. I am always in awe after reading this section.

Sy Safransky’s Notebook is another favorite section of mine. Sy, the editor, journals some thoughts in his day in this section. You see who he really is and what he’s made of. In other words, he writes his thoughts on this page and they are quite profound. I love his honesty and his neediness. He truly is a writer in every sense of the word.

How can I sum it all up? Are there words? If you’re artsy, if you like thought-provoking literature, good photography, poetry, then subscribes to this magazine. No, just order one copy from http://www.thesunmagazine.com
And see if you like it.

I bet you do!
