Author's Review

I’ve already seen this movie twice and I’d be willing to see it more! It’s not just another average vampire movie. Queen of the Damned is based on Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and is just a very cool and spooky movie. Oh and did I mention the AWESOME soundtrack?!?! Here’s a run-through of the plot:

PLOT

The movie starts out when the ancient vampire Marius (who was created in 400 BC) chooses Lestat (Stuart Townsend) and makes him a vampire so that he can learn about the present 1800s. He teaches Lestat the rules of being a vampire, most notably, the most important rule that a vampire has to live in the dark and can never get involved with mortals. This upsets and surprises Lestat who wants himself and his new powers to be known.

Later in the movie, while playing his violin he stumbles upon a secret room that contains the forms of the Queen Akasha (Aaliyah) and the King in frozen statue form. After almost awakening Akasha from her sleep with his music Marius comes and takes the statues and flees, leaving Lestat alone to learn his greatest lesson about the life of a vampire.

With nothing else to do Lestat goes into a deep sleep for two centuries, coming back in present day to make himself the closet thing to a god he believes humans worship…a rock star.

His lyrics intrigue the Study of the Paranormal in London employee Jesse (Marguerite Moreau), who believes that his lyrics are leading people to a vampire coven. She goes to check it out and almost gets herself killed by vampires in the process. However, Lestat saves her and she tells him what she knows about him. He rubs her off as just a little librarian and then disappears.

Jesse doesn’t give up that easily though and returns later to return Lestat’s ancient journal. She taunts Lestat to show her what it’s like to be a vampire and he does, but when she pushes even further and tries to get him to make her a vampire he shows her the other side of it by killing a person in a park and scaring Jesse away.

In the meantime, Lestat’s music has awakened the sleeping Queen Akasha for real this time and she heads of to the vampire coven and kills everyone there; she has just one goal…hell on earth, and she wants Lestat to be her king.

At Lestat’s first and only concert in Death Valley, California everybody is there…including the undead. By spilling the vampire secrets he has made enemies of his kind and they are at the concert to destroy him. Also at the concert is Marius, who has returned to Lestat to save him from Akasha.

In the middle of the show, all the vampires zoom onstage to kill Lestat. With only him and Marius they are completely outnumbered until Akasha shows up, kills all the vampires and zooms away with Lestat to her castle. She tells him of her plan to give humans something to worship…her and him as her king.

At the same time Jesse finds out that she is from a long line of an ancient family and meets with her long gone aunt who is a vampire. They explain how the only way to kill Akasha is when she is weak when giving blood. However, whoever drinks the last drop of blood from Akasha will die.

Akasha and Lestat show up to kill everyone and Akasha commands Lestat to kill Jesse. What happens you ask? Will Jesse survive? What will happen with her intrigue about being a vampire? How about Akasha and Lestat? Well, you’ll just have to see the movie to find that out!!!

OTHER NOTES

Queen of the Damned is rated R for vampire violence and is 1 hour and 41 minutes long. Now a lot of people that don’t like it say that it didn’t translate from the novels well. I didn’t read Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles so I have no idea. However, in my opinion, the movie is awesome by itself!
