Author's Review
Finally the girls has come to the big screen, and not like directly to VHS or DVD. Craig McCracken has taken another level with a theater presentation. He has come along way since his piece of work of 1992 with, then, the whoopass girls. This the film that shows the early days of how the girls were created, their use of ultra superpowers, but not right away being super heros
The opener starts with the original "The city of Townsville" and has become crime ridden. Not even the police put effort to fight crime, but hang out at a donut
shop. A scientist Professor Utonium, was in Malphs Mart to purchase items that he believes would create the perfect little girl. Looking tired and sad like. He witness an armed robbery with Fuzzy Lumpkins pointing his musket rifle at the clerk. Utonium was even harassed by the Gangrene Gang. And back home (with no circular windows of three) a lab monkey "Jojo" goes nuts in the lab. Utonium disregards it, and went to work. Mixing sugar spice and every nice, and stirs it in a big bowl below the glass container of Chemical X. When jojo rammed into Utonium on the side, he accidently smashed the glass container of the chemical and dumped right in the bowl.
Explosion occured and Utonium was knocked out. When he came too, he was stunned to see three little girls standing
and looking at him happily. The can speak and they know they were created. No names they have, Utonium gave them names; Blossom the red hared, Bubbles the golden haired angel, and the toughy brunette Buttercup. Utonium was so happy with the three girls but discovered they have super powers beyond any normal humans. Jojo sees it and he too was effected by the explosion. He runs off. Utonium knows the girls have alot to learn, and had to enroll them to Pokey Oaks Kindergarden the next day. He hopes everything would be okay on the first day. It has so far untill a game of tag the girls learned, has caused destruction to the school and the city. The Mayor was angered by this, and demand that Utonium should be held responsible. The girls didn't mean to cause any harm. The realized the people around them and in the media were against them. And almost felt their father figure has to.
Jojo use that to his advantage. And talked the girls into doing good by helping him with his plans. An observatory was built on top of the volcano, and jojo secretly recruited different monkey species from a zoo. Jojo promises the girls the next day that everything will turn out good. The girls took the professor out the next day by the air and found a major chaos in the city near the
town hall. Jojo has now become Mojo Jojo and seize control of the city with his army of simians. The girls were betrayed and wildly upset, they shot up to space away from
the earth. Not for long deep in space that Bubbles can hear
the peoples' cries for help and Mojo seized Utonium. They made a dash back to earth to help him, but try to control
the chaos in the city. Blossom realize they can use their powers to help, and they did. Just when Mojo felt he nearly lost, he grew to full size by injecting chemical X
into his mutated brain. It was a bigger challenge for the girls to stop him, but they are not about to give in when Mojo advise the girls to disregard the humans for they see
the girls as "freaks".
On the ground, the professor got Antidode X just when the large Mojo was falling to the ground. He was saved before Mojo hit the ground and exposed to the antidode that
shrunk him to regular size.
The city was saved. And the Mayor proposed that the girls
should be the guardians of Townsville. The girls agree and so do everyone but first had permisson from Utonium.
Now, they become Powerpuff Girls. Fighting crime and evil.
I think this film did well, although some of the action scenes were rather fast. Some of the layouts in Utonium's home is not exactly the same compared to the other series on Cartoon Network, but looked better. I really liked how Utonium makes no hesitation to love these girls. He gave them gifts, set up their room and furnish it, and always tuck them into bed. I most definitly enjoyed the golden haired angel idol of mine, Bubbles. She pours out emotion when she feels at fault, or unwanted. When the girls flew off from earth just to run away, they thought they can leave their troubles behind. Zooming in slowly, a voice of a crying girl in space is heard. It had to be one, and that one is Bubbles.
Mojo Jojo being evil has nothing to do with being overshadowed by the girls. Instead, he took his anger out on the human race. This is similar to "Planet Of The Apes"
As Buttercup helps a poor dog in the hands of a big ape, she yelled the familiar line from the 1968 classic. There weren't too many other villians in the film, but the big attention goes to the super and popular villain Mojo. Lot of the action scenes goes rather beyond the original PPG series that to me, went well. Just a rather too fast. Still, I like the film. I enjoyed the girls alot now.
