This movie was fabulous! The plot is simple, yet it is capable of filling you of every emotion you've ever dreamed of. You will laugh, cry, smile, and most of all you will want more! I did, at least!
When I first walked into the theater I was unsure if I made a good movie selection. I thought this because I was the youngest person there. Almost ever seat was taken, and all of them were elderly people, popcorn in laugh and tissues ready. So I took my seat, prepared for an old bore geared for older people. But as the movie began I was instantly hooked. This is a love story anyone can relate to, almost everyone has that first true love that is branded to our memories forever. Young or old, it could happen to any of us.
Like I said, the story is simple. The actual tale (technically the movie begins with a man reading to an old woman at a nursing home) begins at a carnival in the summer of 1940. This was such a fun beginning...I felt like I was actually there. The acting, clothing, and setting was perfect to get the feel of the era. Thats what I most enjoyed about the whole movie, the settings. But anyways, it is at this cute little country carnival where Noah meets Ali for the first time. I don't want to give too much away because it is so much more fun to see it for yourself, but basically Noah literally risks his life on the farris wheel for a chance to go on a date with her (as seen in the movie previews).
Most of the first half is all feel-good material. You get a good look at what life was like back then, and like I said, the setting is always so great. The props, the costumes, the slang, everything is in place and fantastic. You can to fall in love with Noah and Ali as they fall in love with each other. Fun in the sun all summer, a blooming romance. But of course all good things must come to an end as Ali's parents leave their' summer home (and Noah) early to abvoid Ali's heart being broken.
So life continues for the both of them. Noah fights in WWII and Ali becomes a nurse. It is at this nursing job where Ali meets a patient...and ends up dating him. She eventually gets engaged, and by mere luck she sees Noah in the newspaper and runs back to the town to meet him again.
Now, at this point I'm not going to tell any more of the story. This is such a delightful and emotional movie that you should go out to see it for yourself to find out what happens next. Young or old, anyone would like it!
I wanted more, I loved this movie so much. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD, because I will be sure to buy it. It is such a beautiful love story. It can be predictable at times, but it is still so worth it. When this movie ended the sound of sniffling was heard all around. As I looked around almost every person was crying into their' tissues...even men. You know when a movie is powerful if it can make people cry. (The only other movie I saw this reaction was in "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", but they were crying in fear and not in sadness/happiness)
I recommend this for everyone and anyone. I think every person could find something they like about this movie. My favorite part is the setting because it is so accurate (I am a 40's dork and I collect items that came from that era, so I knew I would like this movie), but it is so romantic, and a good love story is good for a nice smile. This is also for sure a good date movie!
Have fun, and enjoy the movie! It is as beautiful as Diana DeGarmo's singing voice!
