Product Review

Great, versatile jacket!

by   jumpmaster ,   Nov 26, 2007

Pros:  Excellent quality, the chute green color is nice (blue also), looks great, works great.

Cons:  Price, limited color selection, sizes run very small.

The Bottom Line:  It's a great jacket! Buy it, but try it on first to make sure it'll fit you. Or buy it somewhere that covers shipping both ways.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought this jacket a few days ago and it has now become my everyday jacket. It is comfortable in strong winds, rain, and cold. If it's just cold (no rain), just use the inner polarfleece liner. If just rain (no cold), use the shell alone without the polarfleece. Use the liner and the shell if very cold or cold with rain...it works great!

The fit runs very small...some people have posted that it runs large, but this is not true. I normally wear a large or XL and had to get a XXL in this jacket for it to fit right. And I don't layer much under my jacket because it rarely gets below 40°F here. If you need to layer, you might want to try this one to get your size before you plunk down the cash for one.

The "Chute green" color is great...that was the only color they had at the store where I purchased it. :-) It is sort of a two-tone forest green and medium green. Looks very classy.

Being as I had to get a larger size than normal to fit in the chest and shoulders, it is a bit long for me. That's ok though...it'll just protect more of you from the waist down. It's more like a parka like this.

I looked at the Columbia jackets also before buying this one. The main reason I went with the North Face Evolution is because there was too much friction trying to get my arms into the sleeves on the Columbia. I think this is because the sleeves in the Columbia liner are completely polarfleece. If you're wearing long sleeves, there's friction against the sleeves and your shirt will bunch up. Not so on the Evolution. Arms slid right in...no fighting with the jacket. Sounds like a silly, minor thing but it made the difference for me.

In short, get it...but try it on first to make sure you like the fit. Sizes run very small so if you're a big guy, you probably can't get one that will fit. I think the largest The North Face makes is XXL.
