i hoped others reviewing this magazine would recognize more fully the scope and reach of this magazine. while its opinions are most often liberal they are also well-reasoned and accurate but allow for dissent in the well managed letters section. additionally, the nation's scope: the art section is the best and most learned of any weekly or otherwise mainstream publication; its music and film critics well above average (nearly always luminous) and book reviews longer and more scholarly than most others. it even has uplifting "personals" and sponsors, along with the society of american poets, one of the finest poetry competitions imaginable while consistently printing worthwhile poems. it excels in breaking important stories as in the recent expose on lead fuels. i would also recommend progressive magazine, though it often seems pondrous.
