The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Life, Love, and Lessons Unlearned (HHAW4WO) |
|||
|
Pros: Production, beats, rhymes, lyrics, collaborations, purpose, worthwhile skits, bonus tracks -- everything.
Cons: No Fugees collabos, knowing what awaited the post-Miseducation L-Boogie.
The Bottom Line: L may be getting a little funny on us now, but for this one moment, on this one album, she was perfect.
Review: When ruminating on the topics of faith and Hip-Hop, its difficult to reflect for very long without thoughts turning to Lauryn Hill. Even from the start of her rap career it was obvious to many that L-Boogie would have a major impact on Hip-Hop ...

Pros: Versatile style, fantastic voice, fantastic lyrics, well produced
Cons: A couple of songs don't quite work for me but they are still well written.
The Bottom Line: One of the most definitive R&B albums of the last century, Lauryn Hill is infinitely talented and this is shown on this masterful collection.
Review: I will never forget the very first time I heard Lauryn Hill's rich, luscious voice. I was watching Sister Act 2 and it was that scene where she is singing with her friend "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". I remember how chills went through my spine and I was...

Pros: A lot of "classic" stuff
Cons: A little angry at times, but deservedly so in most cases
The Bottom Line: One of the classic debut albums.
Review: It's been five years since Lauryn Hill released her classic solo debut. Her album was expected to be ...

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill: Going beyond what a textbook teaches (400th Review) |
|||
|
Pros: An energetic and emotional LP full of vibrant music and livid lyricism...
Cons: There ARE some weaker moments
The Bottom Line: Could this be the final true classic from The Fugees camp???
Review: Lauryn Hill is a bonafied hip-hop superstar, and one of the few artists who remained true to hip-hop while simultaneously being incredibly successful on the mainstream. Lauryn Hill never sold her soul for club anthems. Lauryn never bragged about her ...

Strumming my pain with her fingers, singing my life with her words

Pros: Distinctive and unparalled vocal talent; articulate and charismatic rapping; wide subject matter but coherent themes.
Cons: Lauryn's personality is represented totally- meaning her flaws as well as virtues are present.
The Bottom Line: Recognised as one of the essential recordings of the 1990s, Miseducation marks Hill as one of modern-urban-music's key figures and potential saviour. Seems crass to say "BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".
Review: Lauryn Hill is the biggest superstar that never was. Armed with a fierce intellect and fiercer religious convictions, she blasted herself into immortality with her now ubiquitous intepretation of Roberta Flack's 'Killing Me Softly' in 1996, and, despite i ...

Pros: Read It
Cons: Read It
The Bottom Line: Sorry about the lame title, I'm at a loss for words.
Review: **I submitted early because Ill be out of town, the rest of the entries will be posted 2/3/02**
I knew that when Paul started this write-of that I would join. Music is after all inspiration. It can inspire one to smile, to cry, to... |

"I Used To Love Her" And Still do (Lauryn Hill)"

Pros: Soulful interpretation with jazzy/blues, symphonic melodies with a touch of hip-hop
Cons: Sometimes when one writer writes an entire album, some songs sound the same
The Bottom Line: Originality and funky music. Live instrumentation and groovy drives. Soulful lyrics, messages and powerful vocals. Very poetic. All add up to one thing = A really good album.
Review: What a set of pipes does the ex-Fugees sister have on her. I remember this as I was growing up in my high school days, this young and gifted woman who decided to show her talent by being a part of the cast of , "Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit" and ...

Pros: The soundtrack to my life
Cons: Some interludes seem slightly out of place
The Bottom Line: Buy it now - no album has had an effect on me like that. Maybe it's even changed me as a person.

Lauryn (mis)educates Hip Hop and R&B

Pros: True talent, unique, a landmark album for a landmark artist
Cons: Very few - maybe slightly repetitive.
The Bottom Line: If you listen to R&B, buy it. If you listen to hip hop, buy it. If you lsiten to... you get the idea.
Review: Everyone remembers the Fugees and their classic album 'The Score', as well as it's standout track, the brilliant, melodic 'Killing me Softly'. The vocalist on that track was the velvet-voiced Lauryn Hill, backed by Wyclef Jean and Pras. So now, to coin...

Pros: As close as to perfection as one can get...
Cons: A couple of weaker tracks
The Bottom Line: Lauryn Hill, as young as she is, should be remembered as one of the most brilliant musicians, performers, and song-writers of all time; and that's honesty.
Review: It's very rare that a musical compilation comes along and has such an undeniable impact on me and a world of eager listeners. There are countless such albums; It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Illmatic, Black Star, ...
