Great Movie from the old story

I have seen most of the Zorro movies. From the time I was a kid, the action and heroism of the character portrayed in those films have fascinated me. Before watching The Mask of Zorro, my favorite one was always Zorro with Allen Delone. I saw that one three of four times. Since then, none of them compared until now. The Mask of Zorro is absolutely fantastic.

The story starts with the noble gentleman who is known to all as Zorro. The character is a savior of the people and loved by the public. When Don Diego de la Vega (Hopkins) is unmasked, his wife accidentally gets killed and the daughter taken away.

The Army wants Twenty years later two young bandits. The two brothers get trapped and one gets killed, living the other brother in search of revenge. As the Alejandro Murieta (Banderas), the living brother meets up with Anthony Hopkins, he is told that he will be able to take revenge he is seeking, but after he has completed the proper training. Hopkins decides to teach the young man the art of Zorro. As new Zorro tries to learn the art of sword fighting and the proper manners, he meets a beautiful Elena, who is played by Catherine Zeta Jones. The two automatically develop an attraction for one another, but in order two protect the mask, Banderas acts cold and unpredictable at times. Elena turns out to be the stolen daughter of Anthony Hopkins, which later is known to everyone. At the end the revenge is taken and the movie ends on the good note.

There is sadness in the way de la Vega hides his pain for the lost wife and the daughter, who is now considered a child of his enemy. De la Vega teaches the young Alejandro, that the pain will not grant the revenge he is looking for, but only a proper cause and patience will help him succeed. There is a romance and love between de la Vega and his wife, which carries over into the next generation and repeats itself, when Alejandro meets Elena. There is humor and wit in the plot between the characters and the various situations in which young Zorro gets involved.

The movie is great, because of the action, humor, acting and the characters. Hopkins portrays a charming nobleman, who is calm, mannered and smart. He is one of the greatest actors and the role suits him perfectly. Banderas is a young handsome hero, but not very gentleman like at times and funny. He learns how to behave and control himself as his training progresses, but he brings a great touch of humor and action into the movie, and also a bit of charm. Catherine Zeta-Jones, well she is a great actress. Her acting is always wonderful and she plays a spirited young lady, who is beautiful, but dangerous if provoked. The cast is incredible and all the actors are perfect for their roles.

I have to say that this one definitely left me with a good feeling. I saw it in the movie theatre, on tape and on cable. I guess you can say, I like it a lot.
