A Trilogy of Medieval Treasures

by   kknox0616 ,  Jan 2, 2005
Pros: With hours of additional footage and bonus material, the extended trilogy is the complete LOTR.
Cons: Who has 18 hours to watch it all???
The Bottom Line: Like no other cinematic experience in history, the extended Lord of the Rings trilogy stands alone as the most breathtaking and magical chunk of filmmaking ever committed to celluloid.
Review: What can you say about Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy that hasn't already been said at one time or another? It is perhaps--as many have asserted--the greatest realization of movie-making in the history of cinema--not just for the scope ...

The 2nd Greatest Book in the History of Mankind made into a movie

by   nickeymouse_92 ,  Jul 28, 2005
Pros: Everything, heart gripping, you feel like you are each character, you know every detail.
Cons: You might never be able to stop watching.
The Bottom Line: You must watch this, read the books first.Watch it in theatre if you want the special effect or at home if you don't like crying in public.
Review: Lord of the Rings-J.R.R Tolkiens. The most amazing book made into a movie. Takes your breath away for a moment don't it? How that much imagination and creativity could be harnessed into a motion picture I'll never understand, what I do understand, is ...

A superb film, brilliantly done.

by   angelsdagger ,  Feb 20, 2008
Pros: Superb computer graphics, screenplay and dvd extras
Cons: Bit long.
Review: To be honest I had never read the book (arrrgh! I know right!) and I had never intended on watching the films. It was the fault of an ex boyfriend dragging me to the cinema to see it that I came to like it. Thankfully, I was given the trilogy for ...

Curse that ring! / I can carry you!

by   busby777 ,  Mar 4, 2007
Pros: action, adventure, spectacle, battle scenes, story, special effects, cast, special effects, good versus evil
Cons: uneven sound track, extremely violent, gory, not for kids
The Bottom Line: rated PG13 for good reason, but still a great story of good conquering evil through comradeship and courage
Review: This three-part series of films, based on three novels by an Oxford professor named J.R.R. Tolkien, celebrates the courage, comradeship and loyalty of a group of friends who belong to different races. The creatures of Middle Earth include elves, ...

Four And Five And Five Equals Three: Reviews That Don't Add Up, Vol. 1

by   wlswarts ,  Nov 14, 2007
Pros: Good movies, All right bonus features, Preserves the theatrical releases for posterity.
Cons: There is a vastly better version!
The Bottom Line: The classic theatrical release of the "Lord Of The Rings" Trilogy looks paltry compared to the twelve-disc Extended Edition boxed set that is better!
Review: So, I'm at the end of my reviews of the "Lord Of The Rings" movies . . . finally! I've been going back through the entire collection of DVD releases that represent Peter Jackson's different incarnations of the films of "The Lord Of The Rings" and I ...
