Author's Review
When I sat down to watch "Sleepy Hollow", I had already read the story and seen earlier renditions of this classic tale. I was in no way prepared for what was to come before me that day. This was the most wonderful variation on a theme I have ever seen. For those who like to be scared out of their pants, this is the one to see.
Johnny Depp was wonderful as Ichabod Crane. This time, instead of the mild-mannered school teacher, he has become a very nervous scientist/criminologist. What a change for this old classic. The tale revolves not only around ghosts and goblins, but around a legend being brought to life by someone else's evil. The forces of darkness at play here will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Just when you think you can settle down to a break in the action, the heat is turned up in unexpected ways. The frightening tree in the forest makes for quite an astonishing bit of lore in itself. Of course, Ichabod's timidity shows through in such a way that the character is the reluctant hero at best.
The ending will astonish anyone who is able to manage this to the end, but if you are stout of heart and intestinal fortitude, this is well worth the viewing. So, get out the popcorn and bring a friend to hold onto, because you are in for one wild and scary ride here.
Unfortunately, due to the gory content in places, I would not recommend this for young children. All others, enjoy!
