English and French, Mohawks and Mohicans...

Date of Review:  Jun 16, 2001
The Bottom Line: One of the better action-meets-history films to come out of the nineties, without very many errors either.
Review: It's been about ten years since I saw this film, and I decided to set myself down on a sweltering summer afternoon to see if I could distract myself for a while.

Oh my, can Daniel Day Lewis distract...

Freely adapted from James...

How an Emotion Looks and Sounds

Date of Review:  Jul 26, 2000
Review: I saw this on videotape when it was first released, and I loved it. I watched it on DVD last night, and I'm overwhelmed. This movie is full of the richest, most beautiful ART that I've ever seen anywhere.

Before I continue my ecstatic rave...

Frontier Superhero!

Date of Review:  Mar 15, 2000
Review: I was set up to relate to any workable rendition of The Last of the Mohicans. I really got into James Fenimore's Leatherstocking Tales when I was in high school and would have read the whole series if my English teacher hadn't stopped me after my...

The Last of the Mohicans

Date of Review:  Apr 20, 2000
Review: Last of the Mohicans, based on the literary classic by James Fenimore Cooper, is simply an amazing movie. This movie takes place in 1757 during the French-Indian War. A love story involving an English upper-class woman and an adopted son of the...

Just a really excellent movie.

Date of Review:  Jun 24, 2000
Review: I challenge anyone to watch this movie and NOT be moved by the final 25 minutes. Director Michael Mann keeps the plot and brilliant action sequences moving along quickly, stopping only occasionally for a sweet romance scene or some governmental...

Romance During the French and Indian War

Date of Review:  Feb 17, 2009
The Bottom Line:

This movie overcomes a weak start to be very satisfying.

Review: I am not generally a fan of war films, finding them formulaic.  Naturally, that means I saw The Last of the Mohicans against my better judgment.  But the end result was moving enough for me to watch again.  It was just as good on the second...

An Action Packed Rollercoaster Ride from Start to Finish

Date of Review:  Jan 20, 2000
The Bottom Line: Its almost time to dust the movie off again, pop some popcorn, grab some M&M?s (plain not peanut) and settle in to be entertained to the fullest.
Review: There are very few movies that move me enough in either plot or action, to warrant a second look, let alone a devotional following that compels me buy the movie, take it out, dust it off, and watch it every year without fail. Hunt for Red October is...

Rescuing the Indian Soul in America

Date of Review:  Nov 14, 2000
Review: Today most of us have heard about how much the western white men devastated American Indians. That happened not only by the hands of Englishmen, but by the hands of many western colonizers who put his/her feet on America?s soil: in South America,...

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Date of Review:  Nov 13, 2000
Review: You have to be impressed with the honesty of a film that gives writing credit to a 1936 screenplay adaptation, in addition to James Fenimore Cooper's novel. Cooper was the first successful American novelist, helping to create the legend of the...

Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Date of Review:  Apr 12, 2000
The Bottom Line: Probably the best adaptation of James Fennimore Cooper's gripping tale of life on the American frontier during the French and Indian War. Must see!
Review: Director Michael Mann's Last of the Mohicans is an action and adventure lovers treat!

Set in 1757, in the New World, it gives the viewer an idea of some of the issues that caused the colonists to revolt against "Old England" a scant twenty...
