Author's Review
I just got this CD. It came out the first of April 2003. This is a 2 CD set. Each CD features 12 songs. It is produced by Billy Sherrill, who came out of retirement just to work with George on this. I love the older gospel songs that I remember singing as a child in church. George Jones is my all time favorite singer. When I heard that this CD was going to be coming out I knew that I had to get it. His voice is pure and simple. Nobody can compare.
The songs included are:
Disc 1
1. Amazing Grace
2. It Is No Secret
3. Just a Little Talk with Jesus
4. Where We'll Never Grow Old
5. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
6. Why Me Lord
7. I'll Fly Away
8. Precious Memories (with Patti Page)
9. Just A Closer Walk With Thee
10. In the Garden
11. When Mama Sang (The Angels Stopped To Listen)
Disc 2
1. Peace in the Valley
2. What a Friend We Have in Jesus
3. Softly and Tenderly
4. Lily of the Valley
5. The Old Rugged Cross
6. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
7. Family Bible
8. Mansion over the Hilltop (Featuring Vestal Goodman)
9. If I Could Hear My Mother Pray Again
10. How Beautiful Heaven Must Be
11. Jesus, Hold My Hand
12. I Know a Man Who Can (Featuring Sheri Copeland and Barry Smith)
These songs are old favorites. I really love his version of Amazing Grace. It starts out with just his voice in the beginning, with no music. Listening to Precious Memories brought tears to my eyes as I thought of loved ones who have passed. What a Friend We Have in Jesus has always been an all time favorite of mine. George does it beautifully. How Beautiful Heaven Must Be is also another favorite. It makes me think of what heaven will be like when I'm able to see my loved ones.
Instruments used on the CD are: drums, steel guitar, bass, electric guitar, keyborads, acoustic guitar and fiddle. The background singers are: Louis Nunley, Bergen White, Curtis Young, Mark Ivey, Ray Walker, Michael Black, Gordon Stoker, Millie Kirkum, Sheri Copeland, The Smith Family (Barry Charles, Lonnie, Mylon and Donald).
If you love good gospel music you must get this 2 CD set. I was also impressed that it was just the cost of a normal CD. Usually when you buy a 2 CD set they cost more than normal CD.
For a limited time if you go to Countrystars.com you can buy this CD personally autographed by George.
